I have removed my internal locking flag and I was wondering if I ever needed warranty repairs, will my warranty become voided if the lock has been removed?

I am looking for replies from someone who has actually sent in a revolver without the lock for warranty repairs or service.

Thanks.

If you took it out and saved it, then the gun needs service work? Just put it back in before you ship ----EASY!!!!!!!!!! :D

About the screws, and not to hijack the thead, but can anyone recommend a set of screwdrivers that I actually can find locally (e.g., Home Depot, Lowes) that are appropriate and effective for removing the screws in a j-frame without damaging anything?

For screwdrivers that fit S&W screws, try Brownells, or Midway might have gunsmith screwdrivers. You ain't going to find anything you want ot use on a smith, or any other pistol, at Lowes or Home Depot.

I use old screwdrivers that I've hollow ground. That way the sides of the point are more parallel and square. If you buy a set.....pay a little more and get a good set.

Midway has a S&W set, really reasonably priced. I bought it to keep with the Smith war bag. The single handle set mentioned above by Moonman with different bits work great.

I have found a set of screwdrivers (gunsmith's) at a sporting goods store. Unfortunately I didn't find them until after I removed my lock...:(

My question was made because if ever I need to return the weapon and I DON'T have to replace the lock, then I would rather not. I was curious if anyone here had sent in a gun without the lock and S&W did not make an issue out of it.

I don't know and I am interested in your question as well. I suspect that it would come back to you with a new lock in it if you sent back without a lock. I don't really see how it can void the warranty, unless they claim that your removal of the lock caused the problem. Users are allowed to take a gun apart and do things like remove sights, stocks, etc. so why should a lock be any different?
