in the latest issue of American Handgunner (Jan/Feb 2019) on page 9 there is an advertisement for performance center revolvers. two of the revolvers show the hole for the lock and one (629-V)does not show the lock. does S & W now have an option of having the lock? not really interested in the revolvers but just curious more than anything.

Without having seen the ad myself, I'd guess the gun is tilted so the cylinder latch "hides" the keyhole.

the perspective of the picture on all of the revolvers is the same so I don't think it is being hidden

I have not seen the ad, but Smith and Wesson stopped using pictures for the website many, Many years ago. The images that you see on the website are mostly renderings from their CAD software.

This is why "the perspective of the picture on all of the revolvers is the same"

Many of the computer renderings differ from the actual production firearms in lots of little things

I just looked at the 629 V-comp on the website and the computer rendered image is missing the lock

If those are the same images that got used in the ad you are looking at I would not be surprised

Seeing how so many dislike the lock. I'd have to say that's false advertising.

Why not give S&W a call and see what they say? Mention the ad; companies like hearing that their ads are noticed. Say you're in the market for that gun and the photo shows no IL.

I think it is a misprint/ mistake photo. Whatever you wanna call it.
I had heard that they were going to release "no lock" versions of the classics from my rep at my LGS. About 4 months ago. But Of course, that was before "American outdoor brands Corp" Lost that court battle with the nuns. So now they have to justify safety features in guns just to be able to sell them(something like that,going on memory). I'm sure if I screwed up the story, someone will come along and correct me.
In short, they will most definitely, still sell guns with safety features, into the foreseeable future.

I HAVE NOT SEEN THE AD MYSELF, BUT THE PRESENCE OR ABSENCE OF THE IL IS AN IMPORTANT ISSUE......

TO MANY PEOPLE, SUCH AS MYSELF, IT WOULD BE THE DECIDING FACTOR OF WHETHER OR NOT I WOULD PURCHASE THE REVOLVER. I ORDERED A NEW M642-1, SOLELY BECAUSE IT DID NOT HAVE THE IL.....

I ORDERED A NEW M629 MOUNTAIN GUN, WHICH ARRIVED WITH THE IL. THIS WAS MY FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH THE IL. IT LOOKED SO OUT OF PLACE TO ME, NEXT TO MY OTHER MOUNTAIN GUNS, THAT I SOLD IT, AT A LOSS, AFTER SHOOTING A BOX OF 50 TO ZERO IT IN, AND CHECK FUNCTION. I SEARCHED GUN BROKER UNTIL A NICE EARLY VERSION APPEARED. I PAID MORE FOR IT THAN I HAD PAID FOR THE NEW ONE, BUT I WAS A HAPPY CAMPER AT LAST......

IMHO---UNLESS THE AD HAS SOME LANGUAGE TO THE EFFECT THAT THE IMAGE DOES NOT REPRESENT THE ACTUAL PRODUCT, IT IS DECEPTIVE OR FALSE ADVERTISING, WHICH IS ILLEGAL......

NO, I AM NOT AN A ATTORNEY, BUT I AM ALSO NOT IGNORANT OF LAWS THAT ARE WRITTEN TO PROTECT CONSUMERS LIKE MYSELF.......

Well, FWIW, it wasn't a court case. As I recall it was a proposal made and voted on at a stockholder's meeting, and all S&W agreed to do was prepare a report on what they are doing (and/or can do) to prevent misuse of their products for violent crime.

If they are starting to release p/c versions without the IL then sign me up. I'll gladly start purchasing new guns again.

edit- It appears this topic is a few years old, there are posts on about the same thing on other message boards that date to 16 and 17. The consensus is, the gun has a lock.
