Internal lock?

I just bought the 625 Mountain Gun and I have been asked about the internal lock. Will someone explain the reason or about this lock and why some pistols have them and some don't also is it a detriment to have this on your pistol and can it be removed?

Welcome to the forum, and open a can of worms. It is all in peoples view of it, some don't like it and others don't care. Most are in the I don't care area. Some would still drive cars with flared fenders w/out seatbeats if they could. Enjoy your gun and get ready for the next go around.

My advice. Read all you want, but let this dead horse rest in peace! Those who don't mind the IL will always feel that way, and those that hate it will always feel that way. Most will not change their minds based on the opinion of others. Same with those who really do not care one way or another.

The bottom line is that we all love guns. To those who buy guns with the lock, I say congrats on buying a new gun and best of luck with it.

is it a detriment to have this on your pistol

I have 2-3000 rounds of various loads thru my 625-9 MG with no IL problems. I sent it back to S&W once for a new cylinder. It came back better, tighter than new. I think the action is just getting broke in. It is incredibly crisp and smooth as comared to my 460XVR.

That gun will always shoot better than you do, lock or no lock. I would not worry if it is a detriment to the gun, make sure that you are not.

Look at the top of this page. There is a row of buttons with labels and icons. Click on the one that says "Find" and has a small magnifying glass next to the word. A window will appear. Type "lock remove" or some variation of that in that window. Then click on the button labeled "Go".

I ignore the locks. Most of mine have them, I have yet to have any problem. That said, my defense gun does not have one.

I know that the lock has failed, but if you when by %, I would think you would have a better chance to win the lottry. Frames have failed, cylinders, barrels have fail more here on the forum than the lock in the last year. I have guns with it, I just over look it. My two cent.

Unless it's an ultra lightweight gun, I wouldn't be concerned about it at all.
