Internet Explorer problems

i currently use windows 10 and firefox. for several days now, internet explorer will activate and appear on the task bar of my computer.

also, it seems as if something is running in the background because there is a noticeable whirling sound like a fast moving fan or disk........

any suggestions how i can eliminate this?

I do know that MS......

Microsoft does not LIKE for you to run 3rd party programs that are competitive with their products. I may be malware but I suspect it is MS 'nosywear'.


I always said that MS Internet Explorer WAS malware itself.

I have a different problem, pages hang up and take forever to load and sometimes I get the message that blah blah blah page is not responding and the message to recover the page. I also do not like that whichever browser I use, if I download something that has to use adobe or it is like a PDF file my machine will auto revert to the Edge browser to read it. I mostly use Chrome now and occasionally FF.

In the "Ask me anything" box enter "Default app settings". Scroll down and click on "Choose default apps by file type". Scroll down to "PDF". Change to your preferred method to read PDF files.

I have never liked IE, and haven't used it for years...I prefer Mozilla Firefox. We recently "upgraded" to Windows 10...my wife had to have her hard drive replaced on her laptop, and they installed W10 with the new drive; my laptop decided to upgrade on its own! I haven't had any real problems with W10, and I've gotten used to it. Since upgrading to W10, there is one site I had problems with (Walmart.) No other sites were any different. My wife didn't have any problems getting to Walmart and making it work, while I couldn't even log in anymore. So, last night I tried using Edge, which is new (to me, anyway) and I was able to log in and actually order something from Walmart (hey, don't hate me...in this rural area, Walmart is uptown shoppin'!)

I'm still going to use Mozilla, but Edge may work for you if you have problems.

I uninstalled Internet Explorer from my computer many years ago and mostly use Firefox, but have Chrome for a backup. Thinking about Internet Explorer makes me think about the AOL browser... whatever happened with that?

AOL has a browser called Shield I have used it but don't particularly like it. It is OK but I still prefer IE.
