Back in the spring an old friend passed away and in lieu of flowers, he asked for donations to be made to Wounded Warriors. I chose to honor his request and made a memorial donation in his name to Wounded Warriors. This is the only donation to a charity I have made in the past year.
In the last 6 months my mailbox has been inundated with charity solicitations. I'm talking 2 or 3 a day, every day, every week. Along with these solicitations I have gotten tote bags, note pads, pens, address labels, nickels, a t-shirt, Christmas stickers and a new one has been several charities sending 5 or 6 Christmas cards. I am filling my recycle bin weekly with all the solicitations and it's really getting old.
I don't know for a fact where my name got on the suckers list but the circumstantial evidence is pretty clear. I know Wounded Warriors in the past had a history of selling donors information and I thought there had been a change but apparently not.
There are several other worthy military charities that I have made memorial donations too in the past and none have resulted in all this garbage.
Be fore warned.

Mckenney99,
The vast majority of mailing such as this are the result of the organizations receiving donations selling names and addresses of donators. Yes, it's a racket of which you are already aware. States used to do the same thing involving selling drivers license information as well. Many churches do, too.
The holidays are when it gets really bad. I have an elderly relative who gave to a well known charity some years ago. Within two weeks, she recieved multiple mailings not only from that charity asking for more and more money. Then came the other charities all wanting donations...then came the phone calls (one asking her for a donation of over $500).
At this point, there is so much info on line about all of us that gets thrown in the picture as well.

In short, all you can do is merely fill your recycle bin with it. Telling these charities NOT to sell your info (which they make far more money from than your donation) is a waste of your time, effort and postage.

I can’t believe the mail outs I receive after making donations to an organization once a year. Regardless of the organization, they sell or share our information with other causes and organizations. The letters I receive go in file 13. I don’t have a problem with it.

I only give cash donations to local groups in person. Works well.

When first married, my wife and I sent Oral Roberts $20 by check. it took not donating for over 5 years to get off his list.

A few years later Nora Lam wanted money to send Bibles to China. I bought a money order and sent it in an envelope with no return address. Only heard from her on the Radio. It Worked.

I tried to contribute to a political Canidate, but they demanded everything but my SSN! They said it was required by law. I told them they were either lying or had been lied to! Churches and The Salvation Army are as closely guarded by the IRS because of money laundering, and they take cash! I found I can make donations to my church and earmark it for another Christian Ministry, I still get to claim it on my taxes & don't get the junk mail! My close friend that is a missionary in the Philippines, send me no junk mail, just an email newsletter each month, and costs us both nothing!

And I thought I was the only one. I also get emails from them.

Being the oldest son, I am the executor of Mom's estate. I got her mail sent to my house, she was in Wisconsin, myself in Georgia. She donated to a number of organizations. In short I get mail daily from all kinds of places. I have written many explaining she has passed away and they are wasting time and money by sending the requests. They keep coming and ending up in the trash.

I've dealt with the same sad situation for the last year. Even after you notify them, they continue with the mail. There may be some remote legitimacy somewhere with these folks, but they're basically scammers.

WW is anti gun as in Support gun control, beware.
One Must be Very careful throwing anything in the trash with your name and address on it. Burn, shred or feed them to your paper eating goat. My shredder gets full in about a week these days, back in the summer took about a month…

We have a kiosk where we get our mail, and a garbage can about 20 ft away near the entrance to the fitness center. One must pass the can to go get their mail.

Every week the can gets filled up with solicitations anywhere from “free meals” to attend a seminar on investing, to discount coupons at local businesses to credit card applications.
People just dump their personal info onto the can.

We never put anything in the garbage can, we take it home to be shredded.

Have also recently received a number of requests.
I do donate to a local food bank.
Has to be them!
Should add - I have received some dainty address labels!
WW has had the Thumbs Down for a while.

Found out long ago its easy to get on the sucker list but much harder and longer to get off.

Any organization or person I deem worthy of getting my hard earned money gets it anonymously. Just pay cash and get a post office money order and send it to them.

They have a lot of serious begging commercials on the Smithsonian channel. Some are infomercials approaching 4 minuets in length and most of them do not have a good record of how much money actually goes to where its supposed to go.

Dont forget if they send you a postage paid envelope to mail back your donation just stuff it with other junk and send it back. Dont cost you anything to get rid of the extra paper that way. After a while they quit sending you things!! Havent had to do that in a few years now but I can be a bad boy!!

I send a check to our local Animal Welfare League every Christmas. This has never prompted a deluge of charity donations requests so I'm pretty sure they don't sell donor info.
