iphone madness???

Only 20 years ago a smart phone like iPhone or Galaxy would be PFM...

Pure Freakin' Magic, and blow everyone's mind completely.

Using Siri, you just talk and Siri does the typing of text messages for you. You can even post messages here the same way and save yourself from arthritic finger pecking on a keyboard. Siri voice recognition on my iPhone is lightyears ahead of what came packaged with my iMac.

iPhone (or any of the smartphones) ... it's for old and young alike. :)

Guess you have to admire missionary zeal when you encounter it...:D

"..and I felt a terrible disturbance in The Force, as if a billion teenagers screamed in terror as they pressed 'send' but nothing happened".

No, I don't get the iPhone thing either.

Remember those great big tube radios way back when and how they had shrunk to transistor radios by the tine we were kids?
This is where the home computer is now.

I recall about 20 years ago calling from Tokyo to my brother in the US who was driving in his car with a cellphone and how that just seemed unbelievable...

I like the convenience of the iPhone, fits right in your pocket and all, but prefer the iPad because it is a heck of a lot easier to see. (Only difference between the two that I notice is size. Well, that and the iPhone's built-in phone.). It is quite rare for me to use a laptop or desktop computer at this point as the iPad does whatever I need, or want, to do...

Happy to report, however, that makes no difference at all to me whether other folks want to use these devices or not.:)

I carry a trac phone when I travel, otherwise I get along very nicely without one.

I watch my 22 yr old go into withdrawals if the wifi goes down and he can't connect his laptop to the internet or the towers get interrupted and he can't get a signal on his iPhone. I just shake my head and remind him that if he marries his current girlfriend (pretty likely at this point) and they go be missionaries where she grew up (West Africa), he can kiss perpetual connectivity good-bye.

Please explain to me the overwhelmingly unclean spirit of desire that possesses the minds, souls and bodies of people that must have the latest electronic gadget of any kind that has maligned the name of a poor, unsuspecting and innocent fruit.
Maybe this book will help. The science of influence and persuasion is very well established. Funny thing is even the Amish with their horse and buggy have cell phones.
