iPhone Users - Update

I just checked my iPhone and we are up to iOS 26.2. Maybe different updates for different countries. This update only came up this morning so I gather it’s for a similar reason.
 
I updated my IPhone to keep the stupid messages from bugging me. Now every time I do something it prompts me to set up something random that I have no use for. “See what’s new in what ever…”
I can do the minimal and that’s all I need. Wife can launch the space shuttle from her phone.
 
Hmmm... I have received no dire warnings from Apple directly, just "Update to iOS 26.2" and the typical puff stuff about new design, Liquid Glass, Apple (so-called) Intelligence, etc., etc. Yawn.

I'll probably do it anyway as I do like to keep my software up-to-date, once I've found out how to disable the new "features" that I have no need of and/or will just annoy me.
 
I have updated my phone and iPad in the last several days. The phone update is good with some new features on the call app.
The iPad is a different story. I have a heavy case with a plastic screen protector. The case takes of some of the edge of the pad. Seems something changed where you now have to scroll at the edge of the page making it hard with this case. The other big thing is two finger enlargement. Take two fingers and stretch the text or picture to enlarge it. Now it will stretch but not stay enlarged. Some things it won’t let me do anything with. Has anyone else had this happen since the update?
 
I already mentioned my Apple update story.
Updated my iPad and iPhone, everything works great, except-
The updated iPad photo app saves the photos in Raw format, which can’t be uploaded on this and other sites.
I do know of some work arounds, haven’t applied them yet to some photos I shot the other day

Raw?? I think that's an uncompressed format usually used by professional photographers for maximum quality. If you're taking pics with your iPhone, are they now in RAW or still HEIC? No point storing them in RAW in that case. As good as the iPhone cameras are I doubt they warrant shooting in RAW. I haven't updated yet but as I recall I was able to set the camera to save as JPEG rather than HEIC, which is good enough for me and I'm not concerned about the file size reduction.

As an aside, I see there's yet another file format, AVIF. When I posted the article about the old German monastery closing down some production, I tried to post a link to the pic, but it said "....jpg.avif". I had to download it (and reduce) and saved it as WEBP as I was only using it here, otherwise I'd have used JPEG.
 
I updated my phone last night, but I had already pulled up a bunch of pages on the computer on how to tame certain things in the update that eat your battery. Even so, I have yet to fix the camera settings that Apple wrecked, but I did sort out the way it displayed time in some weird font. My house alarm app did not work properly until I accessed it a different way. Now it seems OK. I did turn the phone off entirely after the update to clear stuff down. Yes, I turned off a phone, children, just breath slowly and deeply using the supplied paper bag.

Apple have ruined the screen when you access certain options when texting. The options now appear on a bright white screen despite the phone being set in dark mode overall. Major man-machine interface fail. I fixed the Safari layout immediately as the Interweb had already warned me of how Apple had fubarred it.

As the day goes on we shall see what other mischief Apple have been up to.

ETA: The updates to my phone and tablet turn on the Bluetooth. Why?

Does anyone know how to convert a jpeg picture to a pdf and then be able to download it to website. I’m trying to send in my COBRA application to a company website. No email address and I don’t have a fax. I know I can take it somewhere and fax it, but this would be a good learning experience.

Are you on an iphone, tablet, or Windows computer? On a Windows computer you can print to PDF I believe.

Assuming on an iPhone in iOS 26 ?
  1. Go to the Preview app

    on your iPhone.
  2. Open the jpeg picture
  3. Tap
    the Actions Menu button
    next to the filename, then tap Export.
  4. Select a file format. Available formats are HEIC, JPEG, PDF, PNG, and TIFF.
  5. Optionally, use the slider to adjust the file size.

BTW, regarding the OP, I dislike all the iOS 26 cosmetic changes.
 
My phone took the change without an issue. My IPad would not and even locked me out. I had to take it to the Apple Store after an online chat and a phone call from a tech failed to resolve from a downloaded app.
Basically plugging the IPad into the desktop.

The tech asked if I had the original cord for the IPad. He told me of the difference between the Apple cord and the 6 cords for a dollar on Amazon, which I remember hearing something about. Those are for charging not transferring data.

No idea, no bueno on the download with the cords we had, couldn’t tell one from another, off to the Apple Store per his advice.

The “genius” at the store, that’s what they are called, plugged it into a laptop with an Apple cord, downloaded the app and restored everything. Took about a half hour.

So far our Fidelity retirement account still shows a balance. 🤪🤣

Thank goodness they have finally decided on standardizing to USB-C

I’m learning. Every time I get to where I think I’m good,they change something.
I’m really not liking being able to expand text. A third of my screen on this thread is taken up with a black space.
 
Mine updated to 26.2 a week or two ago. I didn't like the transparency look, so I turned it off in settings. It is acceptable to my eyes now. I have not noticed any increase in battery usage since updating.

EDIT: Looking back through the settings, you cannot turn transparency off. What I did was set it to "tinted" which makes it less transparent than does the other setting of "clear".

You can make it even better by selecting "Reduce transparency". This is a display function hidden in the "Accessibility" area of settings. I sometimes think that the coders do this deliberately to fool users into doing stuff their way.
 
Just did the update a few minutes ago and don't like the new look. I'll work with what the above posters say or ask my granddaughter for help. It wants me to "Set up Apple Pay" but I don't want or use it. How do I get around that set up?

Somewhere, it should say "Not now" in a smaller, fainter font.
 
I’ve been putting off my iPhone updates. All the “new gadgets “ I view are for younger folks - my grandchildren/younger adults - and are not usable or wanted/needed by me. However, these security issues are a bit alarming, so I’m updating my iPad and iPhone now. What nonsense………
 
I found the not now but just wanted to not set it up at all. Couldn't find it so I just hit the "Not now." Wonder how long before it starts popping up again.

Oh, it will continue to complain and whine on a regular basis for a while. It will give up eventually.
 
First thing I do is turn off automatic update. Then, I update if something *I* want won’t work without it.

I have very little trouble with my devices, and don’t have to relearn altered apps every six months.

When’s the last time you bought a new hammer because they “updated” it?

I was thinking about buying some of those new updated mouse traps.
 
I'm waiting a bit yet before upgrading to iOS 26 until the digital dust has settled. I read that in 26.1 (?) the much-reviled Liquid Glass "feature" can now actually be turned off, apparently because Apple got so much negative feedback on it. I'll probably turn off much of the AI fooferaw as well. I don't want a "bot" making suggestions as to what it thinks could improve my life. All I'm really interested in is security updates and stuff I will actually use.

One feature that might be useful would be to be able to add custom conversions to the Calculator app, which got considerably expanded in iOS 18. This occurred to me when I was reading the specs on the popular Chinese diesel heaters. (I bought an "all-in-one" model a few years ago and find it very useful.) They're rated in kW, but what is that in BTU? The conversion factor is 3412.142, so my 5kW will put out about 17k BTU at full throttle. All Apple would need to do is add a drop-down menu where you give the conversion a name, and add the formula. There are probably a number of static conversions (as opposed to dynamic ones like currency) that could be handy to have in the app, without having to bookmark something like RapidTables and look them up.
