iron sights

I would just like some info. for the proper technique in using iron sights. The first thing I did when I purchased my 15-22 was to outfit it with a scope, then down the road I purchased a reflex red dot, now after reading through some of the threads here on the forum it has been suggested to practice with the iron sights first, so now I would like to learn the proper technique for using iron sights.
