Is $600 fair for a VG condition 5" Model 27-2 w/o Box or Papers?

A 5" 27-2 in VG would be worth somewhere right around $400.
On what planet is that? I remember seeing those kind of prices around here but it was many, many years ago.

I think the magna grips are OK. They were known as standard service in that time frame and the gun would be before target grips became standard.

Nice find at a great price.

Looks like a great gun to me. Service magna stocks were standard until 1975. Then target magna stocks became standard. I purchased a 27-2 brand new in early 1975, that had the service magna stocks installed. Mine do have a serial number, matched to the gun, on the right-hand stock. I know some target stocks were not serial numbered, but maybe some service stocks were not numbered also. Either way, the service stocks are probably correct for your gun. If not, they're very close. Good shooting!

Thanks for all the kind words and comments, guys. I really wanted to post better photos last night, but I got home around 8pm and was up 'til midnight cleaning out all the congealed oil  The gun looked like it's last PMCS was 20+ years ago, then lived in a safe. The action is much crisper now. I don't really care for the TT & TH, so I'll be swapping them out ASAP...anyone want to trade?;)

I've thought about waxing it. I've seen guys talk about Renaissance Wax, never used it though...I would just apply that with a t-shirt? What about the nooks and crannies? I'll see if I can't get some proper photos up tonight.

Thanks,
-Rob

I've used Ren Wax for years, and suggest applying it with your fingers on the metal and grip material, using a q-tip for the tight spots. Use a clean micro fiber cloth to buff. When done buffing, you'll be amazed at how it revitalizes the metal, as well as the wood or any grip material! Brownell's is a good source for the wax.

This is just my opinion, but you did very well. Personally, the TH/TT is the way to go. Beautiful revolver!

No dig intended. I just can't remember seeing a 5" blue 27-2 that came from the factory with them(around here anyway), during this era? But, I'm old enough to realize when it comes to S&W there is no nevers.

I'm not a huge fan of the TT & TH...they feel much less conducive to good DA shooting vs the standard hammers and triggers. I'm going to have a local smith fit 'em for me as soon as I can find a standard set. I've got the Renaissance Wax on order, so that'll be exciting :D Thanks for all your guys' comments, input, and advice.
