Is a 5906TSW allowed in USPSA competition?

Apologies if this thread is redundant;

Is a S&W 5906TSW allowed in USPSA competition?

I looked at their list of allowed pistols and saw only the 5906, yet they make a distinct listing for some of the other TSW types.

Send them (USPSA) an e-mail and ask. The norm is, "if it isn't listed it isn't allowed" but sometimes the they just miss things.

USPSA has openings for just about anything, although it may not be as "competitive" in each divison. The 5906TSW will work in Production Class or Limited 10 as long as you only load 10rds in your mags. You can also shoot Limited Minor with more than 10rds if you want, but Production is where you would be shooting againest like guns.

I would mark a magazine that can not be confused with a loaded one when showing clear. I have used a plated one, while the rest of the mags are blue. Show the range officer what you are doing at the line before shooting.

Magazine safety requires you to show a clear chamber, then insert a magazine to drop the hammer. This makes some range officers nervous if they have not seen it before. If your 5906 does not have this, then you are good. I have seen a new shooter insert a loaded mag, and drop the hammer. No round was chambered because the slide did not move.

You're sort of combining a couple of different things here. USPSA only lists "approved" guns for Production Division (not Class as many people call it). Since they don't list the 5906TSW, you'd have to get a ruling from NROI...send them a note and you'll get a reply from John Amidon pretty quickly.

If you want to shoot in a different division (i.e. Limited, L-10, or Open) you'd be fine, but at a disadvantage compared with the rest of the field. You'd be stuck shooting Minor (one less point for B, C or D hits) in either Lim/L10 (.40 minimum for Major), and be at a significant capacity disadvantage in Limited (most everybody has 18-22rd mags). In Open, you could technically shoot Major, but not only would that be silly, you'd be shooting against guns with 26-31rd mags, optics and compensators....no chance of being competitive.

Your best bet is to find out if they would allow it in Production Division...everybody is scored Minor, no more than 10rds in the mag after the buzzer sounds...very even playing field. R,

I believe the 5906TSW is approved. On the mag safety issue. I shoot a M&P with a mag safety in IPSC. What I do is I hand the RO an empty mag for him to keep. At the end of the stage after I clear it. The RO hands me the empty mag then I can dry fire (hammer down) as instructed. I carry this M&P off duty and have to keep it "as manufactured" which is why I just don't disable the mag safety.
