I purchased a M&P9L Pro CORE about a year and half ago, I was looking up some info on the S&W site and it looks like it's out of production. Can someone fill me in? Why would they stop or are they producing other red dot optic ready M&P's?

As of now the old CORE series is died . Just got off the phone with CS . No idea if its coming back as a 2.0 or not but there are still plenty of the older models in the market and until they start to dry up we may not know .

CS guy said because s&w is a publicly traded company he can not say what is in development !!

One of my carry options is a 4.25 core although highly updated to make it worth while so maybe they will build a proper built CORE again .

That seems to be the last gun waiting to transition to the 2.0 updates. I'm surprised it has not already been done. About all I can figure is that it's not a big seller for them. Folks that have them seem to love them though.

Seems like Cabela's always has them in stock. They must have a heck of a lot of them in a warehouse somewhere.

Well, If I take a guess (and only a guess), I think S&W wants to deplete current stocks of units/parts before release of a new model. If a new CORE is released, no one will buy the old CORE unless it's dirt cheap. Look at the 1.0 Shields.

The COREs used a style frame that had the internal lock S&W simply removed and plugged the hole. Otherwise CORE slides fit non-CORE 1.0 frames (I have a 5" kit on my FS M&P). CORE slides will NOT fit 2.0 frames.

In any event, no 2.0 is easily available in CA due to roster restrictions. My 1.0 FS with CORE slide kit is as close as I'll come until I cross into the Free Zone.

It makes sense for S&W to wait out the existing CORE sales before introducing the new. I had a look at my goto store websites (in Canada) and found only 2 available. It's not easy to import from the U.S. so it will be interesting to see what happens here, doesn't look like there's much reserve stock for these for us. Thanks for your responses.

Core 9mm

I have a M&P Core Pro Shop model. Never put an optic on it, just wanted the longer sight radius. Love it, carry it, have shot thousands through it with 0 problems if I lean just the chamber every now and then. I do occasionally do a field strip and degrease and lightly lube everything but only 2-3 times a year. The M&P is very light and nimble and is my best handgun for shooting steel.
Just bought a Walther P30L with thanks to John Wick's first movie. Will see how that sight radius works out for me, I think it's a bit longer.
All Guns Matter

Happened to go into our local Cabela's, now Bass Pro, store last evening. They still have a lot of CORE's and PC ported ones in the display case. Some on sale, some not. They still want $1100 for the ported 9L with Shield optic.

Why would a C.O.R.E. slide "not work on a (FS) 2.0 frame"...

Just askin'...?

P.S. IMHO, the C.O.R.E. pistols available now at HUGE DISCOUNTS are some of the greatest bargains out there. Only last month when there were M&P 40 2.0 Compacts available at $299 BEFORE(!) the $40 "Thank You for Your Service Rebates" have I seen better deals. And you can still buy a NEW 9mm Shield 1.0 for $249 @ PSA!

The Slide lock lever and notch are different on the 2.0.

I guess I should have said, it might fit but not lock back manually or on an empty mag.

Inventory is up, sales are down. Chances are you could find what you're looking for through a LGS and the distributors they go through IF they have it in stock or can get it.

Things are made in runs or batches depending on popularity and sales. With sales down they may wait until they have enough backorders before starting a new run.

I've seen new items advertised but never went into full production and dropped because there wasn't enough demand to justify full production.

That's a shame. Great pistol and they were great buys. I have the 5" 9 Pro and wish I had spent the extra $50-75 for the CORE when I had the chance.

Someone in the S&W subforum of AR15.com said that he was told by a S&W rep at SHOT that the 2.0 CORE (and Black 5" 2 .0) were expected to drop this Spring. Hopefully that is true.

That makes sense. I think the Gen 1 of those guns is a very good gun, but it would be hard to buy one thinking it's Gen 2 replacement has to be just around the corner.

THis SPRING ? The way gun show info tend to be about a year off it my not show next year spring time !

I bought both the 9 and 40 when they first came out. I put a Burris FF II on the nine and love it. It will co-witness and got it pretty cheap. I have fired several thousand cheap 9mm through it with no FTF or Feed. Love the gun and it is accurate once dialed in. I can hit an 8" gong at 100 yds with it about 50% of the time. The only issue with them is the trigger. It takes some getting used to. It has a lot of take up and when I shoot it I have to adjust to it each session, but I am back to comfortable after a clip or two. I considered upgrading the trigger, but wanted to give it more round count before I do. The porting really helps control the muzzle and you can shoot fast since you can control it so much more. I would bet that if they do a 2.0 the major change will be a trigger upgrade. The PC Core was supposed to have a better trigger, but it still leaves a lot to be desired. I paid north of 700 for each of them and had to wait to get them.

I just ordered and received from Cabela's a month ago M&P Performance Center Ported 9mm 5" for optics ( red dot) $599.99 clearance two weeks before that I could have had the 9mm core 5" on display in the store for $499.99, had not done all of my homework on the gun. Long story short after waiting a week the core on display was sold which caused me to order the ported gun for another $100.00 Oh well!!!! Does anyone know which model and brand holster will fit my gun? I am looking for OWB for conceal carry and using at a gun range.

re: a holster

Try Midway's Holster Finder. There are quite a few, Safariland comes to kind. Look for one with an optic pictured, if possible.

There will be a cutout in front at the top most likely.

Cheers!

P.S. The extra $100 for the PC you will likely find well spent...
