My .357's all get fed .38's much more often than .357's. They don't mind, and my palms, wrists, and elbows are much happier as well.
My Mustang GT will run 140 mph, but it usually putts around at about 50 mph. My F-250 Diesel will pull 13,000 lbs, but it's usually empty.
The capability is there, you just don't need it all the time. As said above, I would much prefer carrying an accurate, shootable load that is easy to hit with than a hand-cannon that hurts on both ends and doesn't shoot to point of aim.
