Afternoon,

Just out of curiosity is it possible to turn a model 1066 into a decocker only ? If so how hard would it be and would it be a costly endeavor?

There is, or was, a spring-loaded decocking lever available for these guns that installs in the slide (replaces the existing safety lever) with a minor modification. The spring on the lever returns the lever to the "up" position after it is lowered to de-cock the pistol.

I installed one of these in my 5906 approx two years ago. In the recent past, these spring loaded levers were available from Numrich, but I'm not sure they still carry them.

There is some further info on these levers contained in several threads here on the forum you can find by using the 'search" function. The new lever will require installation by a competant gunsmith.

Neither difficult nor costly if you are comfortable removing metal and testing/adjusting decock timing.

It requires cutting a 1/8" slot 3/16" long and then drilling a 1/16" hole towards the forward end of the slot behind the safety lever in the slide.

It sounds tougher than it is.
I've done a few myself using nothing more than a 1/8" end mill and a 1/16" drill bit in a Harbor Freight drill press and vise.

The tough part may be finding the spring loaded decocker/safety.

IIRC, the Numrich part that armorer951 linked to is for the 9mm/.40s&w size slides and will not be wide enough for the 10mm/.45 slide.

There may be hope...
Midway recently offered one for the 10mm/.45 on their clearance page, although it disappeared pretty quickly.
