to spot a reblue through general, average photos??

This is an area I'd really like to become well versed in (hell, I readily admit I'm not the best at spotting one in person but am improving vastly.)

If at a show, I usually grab my buddy that accompanies me who's got a better nose for refinished revolvers than I do. Otherwise I just go with my gut and if the price seems right, I'll fold my hand and buy.

While we're at it, if there are any keen eyed fellers here, I've got some 29-2 pics for you to eyeball and offer some opinions.

Many thanks in advance fellas.

As far as the colors on the pictures, I dont know. I look first for the letter stampings looking dull or different depths, screw holes dished and rounded edges where they should be sharp. Probley good photos can show those things. Also if you know the original models well it helps a lot.

It's very possible if the photos are good quality and the refinish isn't. Some really good refinishes are better inspected up close and have even fooled the experts. Post the pics and we'll give it a look-see.

Yes, I believe it's possible. When I 1st joined here, I wanted to sell a 4" model 15 that I got in buying a small collection of guns. Someone here stated that it appeared to be reblued. Not knowing a whole lot about revolvers, I took it to (2) different gun stores to get their opinions. Both said it was reblued and they showed me how they could tell. I pulled the ad and apologized to the fine folks here. I shipped the gun to my pops in Florida who was looking to keep something in the house for protection. I don't think he cares if it's a reblue or not.
Yes, some people have eagle eyes as long as the pictures are clear enough.

If photos are detailed enough, sometimes you can tell if it's likely been refinished.

Below is a good example of factory finish vs. a refinish.
Note the differences in the fit of the sideplate.

Factory nickel finish: A factory finish has a fine, narrow line where the sideplate and frame meet. The screw holes have nice, sharp edges.

Refinished: The refinished example shows a "valley" where buffing has rounded the edges on the sideplate and on the frame, and the screw holes are slightly dished due to buffing.
