Is it safe to dry fire an SD 40?

As asked above, is it OK? I saw a you tube video about breaking in a new hand gun by dry firing?

Yes. S&W says it's OK and they don't mention any qualifiers.

For me however, dry firing for take down, no problem. It's necessary. Dry firing, to smooth things out and lighten the trigger pull, adds wear to the parts so just shoot it.

I have dry fired every SDVE pistol I've owned...a lot...and I never bothered with snap caps. It seems to help the trigger smooth out, plus it's a lot cheaper than live fire, and less damaging to the TV.
 
I've seen a few old posts reporting that dry firing eventually broke the firing pin from the front of the striker.

I have no opinion but do have some snap caps. I use them only to check the gun by hand cycling with them.
