Is Smith 952 out-of-the-box Bullseye-accurate?

These are both 6 mags, rapid fire, two hands. One hand, slow fire...? I don't shoot Bullseye anymore, but the gun is more than capable of holding the 10 ring.

I dont know about holding the x ring, but I shot a rental at the range that has been shot ALOT. Sweetest gun I had ever shot, and way more accurate than I can shoot. I imagine the 6" is even better...

Thanks guys.Was looking at .45's initially, but I'm not ready to start reloading just yet. And I can't quite justify $15/50rds. 9mm on the other hand, can be had for considerably less. I've seen $7.98/50 on sale. I think the 952 is the type of gun that will probably shoot most any ammo pretty well. It isn't cheap, but the savings on ammo will add up pretty quick. Thanks again. Would love to hear about others using it in competition.

Very accurate. Trigger is very light though...

Must be careful of misfires. I took mine out to the desert with my shooting buddies.

Twice, I fired the gun before I was ready.

Just remember, You'll be shooting stoudt 9mm loads (one handed), while your competitors will be shooting light loads during the rapid fire stage.....A 952 with a Doctor sight like above is a beautiful rig. Now your in the $1500.00 plus range trying to save money on ammo?....One thing for sure. The 952 seems to hold its value very well. If you take care of it and don't scratch it up, you can always recoup most of your investment. You also might have to experiment with different ammo for accuracy, so if you find $7.95 ammo that shoots good in your 952 you better buy cases of it to lock in on that price. Nothing in todays marketplace is safe. I would'nt rely on $7.95 ammo forever....Sorry if I'm confusing you more............

Thanks Ignatz, but I'm confused enough already!

I've been bouncing between a 1911, Smith 52/952, and even perhaps a M14 or 586/686 revolver - all for a centerfire Bullseye gun. I know ammo prices fluctuate, but *in general* 9mm is significantly cheaper to shoot. From what I'm told, reloading 45 is only going to get me in the $7-$8/50 range. So... If I can find good factory ammo for even $10-11/50, that's worthwhile.

Yes, it is crazy accurate. A good one will easily do two inches at 50 yards, a really good one will do better than that.

Just my thoughts: Get a good, conventional match .45 ACP if you want to shoot Bullseye. Shoot the .45 for centerfire and for .45 competion stages. You'll master the .45 twice as fast and shoot better scores with it than you ever will with the small bore pistol.

You probably won't listen to me. Ten years from now, you'll wish you had.

BTW, it's easy to hold the x-ring at 25 yards. To hold the x-ring at 50 yards requires a better gun and much better ammo.

I have to believe the 952 is very accurate with "good young eyes" shooting it. My up close eyesight is terrible. So not seeing the iron sights very well does not help with my 952-2 accuracy. Nonetheless, the firearm is quality tight and the trigger pull is on everyone's wish list. I use factory (PMC) 115 grain ammo, which in my gun has been the most accurate, compared to other name brand ammo.
