Is the gun run ending? Maybe!

One of my local LGS's had plenty of guns in the store today. Guy behind the counter told me they are finally able to keep stock on hand. Prices seem a bit high. Also had about 10 guns in the used section. Ammo - a whole different story. Had 25 acp, 32acp, 44 mag, and a few boxes of 10mm. Have Silver Bear 223 on a pallet for $9.97 per box of 20 rounds (tax incl.). Yikes. Funny, the guy said you could buy it but not use it in the indoor range they have. Several other Local shops are advertising guns in stock. Maybe it is ending (for now at least).

The 2 indoor ranges near me only allow brass FMJ. No steel or aluminum. I assumed that was common. No shotguns either. [emoji22]

Probably everybody just got their credit card bills.

Must be nice because no one in a 50 mile radius is able to get the guns im wanting.

I just tried to get into one of our well-known, higher volume gun shops in MA yesterday to see (and potentially buy) a couple used S&W revolvers listed on the shop's used gun website. Because of COVID and our Governor's rules, I had to sign-in out in the parking lot and then wait outdoors for something over an hour before I had no choice but to give up and head home empty-handed.

The line wasn't moving at all, which could have been caused by slow NICS checks or just people taking a very long time deciding what to buy. I did notice that several people were able to bypass the line and I'm not sure why. Could be that they were just back to pick-up after a NICS delay or something like that... who knows?

I overheard the sign-up guy say that that two employees (of 6 or 7?) had called in sick. I didn't ask if it was the COVID, but I did wonder about that. I don't even know if it was true, but it sounded like a good excuse to make for why we are all standing outside in the hot sun like fools.

So is the guns & ammo run over? Let's just say that I think it's over for me. :( My enthusiasm for this crazy hobby is in the toilet right now. Too bad for me because tax-free weekend is just 8 days away. :o

I too was at my LGS this week. The display cases were full of handguns and long guns on the walls. They were checking in a shipment of ammo. I didn't check prices , as I'm not looking for any more guns. There used to be 3 guys working there, now 5. Looking good.

My local shops are still bare. Two weeks ago the local pawn shop had loads of used shotguns and rifles, but yesterday the racks were bare. Can't believe that anyone would pay $200 for a single shot shotgun, but if it's all you can get it's maybe better than nothing.

There are guns in the shops here in N. central Florida. Not as many as normal but there are still plenty. No ammo for any of them. I would think that would slow sales to new gun owners but maybe the shops are keeping enough back to supply the new buyers.

The handgun ammo I've seen is mostly .32ACP, some 10mm, .44 Mag, some .45ACP. No 9mm, no .380. I've seen 5.56 and 7.62x39 ammo, but mostly at prices that were 50% higher than 2019. AR's and AK's fly off the shelves. Hunting rifles and hunting ammo seem readily available. I think the trend will continue as we get closer to the election.

I peeked into Academy today - no long guns, maybe 11 or 12 handguns in the case, very very little ammo, not much reloading stuff (no primers at all).

$2400 a month unemployment is gone for 2-3 weeks now. That may put a little crimp on gun sales. Anybody that got that money should have put it away for the future bills, after they bought 1 gun for home defense if they didn't already have one. I just bought a used beretta 92 from a gun store that hasn't had used guns in months. Looks like it was purchased in '87 and never fired. So people here are starting to sell guns, not trade them.

Panic buyers create a panic environment. I am not a collector, so I don't have any of the considerations that would go into that. I have bought what I wanted/thought I needed (which is another way of saying "wanted") as they came around and it was reasonably fiscally prudent. There is only one gun for which I am waiting, a rifle I ordered over 4 months ago and has been slow to come.

Likewise ammo. I am adequately set on both for anything I can foresee. I am more likely to run out of my prescriptions first. I caught some grief on this forum a while back because I bought 600 rounds of one load at a pop - a member wanted to know why I thought I would need "that much". Well, it is not much, and it really just enough for a low use caliber I happen to have. Most ammo I buy in cases, often several at a time, because one cannot make an appointment for an emergency. If you have wasted money on something like golf instead of buying ammo, don't come whining to me when your fouled up priorities turn out to have real impacts.

Is the ammo run ending? Nope!

While those buying guns during the recent run may have bought all they need, even the newbie gun owners are discovering what we Forum members have known all along: "All you need" is a "whole bunch" when it comes to ammo.

X-ring Bullseye. 100% agree

The only thing I got caught out on is .380. Not because I bought a new mini-pistol but because I recently bought a Walther PPK , a gun I've wanted for a while, and I really like it. I have plenty of ammo for all my other firearms (plenty = cases). But I never had any .380. Go figure.

Where I shop, the self defense guns are very scarce. The bolt action rifles, and most shotguns are plentiful.

I tried to order a 2.75" 69 and a 4" 48. I settled for a 4.25" 69 they had on hand and a 6" 48 that was in stock at a distributer. Very slim pickings.

I know nothing

Where I shop Pistols and Revolvers in the Display Cases. Rifles
and Shotguns available even ARs to my surprise.

Ammo is a different story. Very hard to find.

Short story; A tourist was asking clerk about 9mm/45acp, see
the shelve over there? (empty). I knew a LGS that's has ammo,
I was going to tell the guy, then I over heard he was from
California. I quietly left the area.

I'm afraid there'll be another surge the closer we get to the presidential election. I thought I was pretty well stocked up on ammo before this Covid-19 snuck up on us. Now I wish I would have tripled up when prices were low. I'm not buying anything now at these prices.
