Is the M&P 2.0 10mm reliable?

Like most poly 10mm, you have to be willing to tailor the recoil spring weight to the ammo you plan to shoot. Do that, and it will be reliable.

Today I shot my M&P 10mm for the second time. I was shooting from where the pistol is laying on the tarp which is about eight yards.

I started with 10 reloads consisting of Nosler 200gr JHP's over 8.4gr of Blue Dot. The accuracy was great.

I then shot 10 more, except that the charge was 8.8gr of Blue Dot. Again the accuracy was great.

Next I shot 2x15rds of the same load, except this time the charge was 9.2gr of Blue Dot. The pattern opened up a bid, but not by much.

Finally, I shot another 50rds of S&B 180gr FMJ. All was well until the last 15rd magazine. The third cartridge ejected out of the pistol along with the spent case from the 2nd cartridge. The fourth cartridge fed and fire just fine, so there was no actual stoppage. I had this happen several times with an H&K USP40. Turns out that its recoil spring was worn out. This is obviously not the case with this M&P's recoil spring given that it's so new, but based on the ejection distance of the spent cases, I really thing that this pistol is under sprung.

I've only put about 300 rounds through mine. Mostly, America Eagle 180, 200 HST, 175 Silvertip, Remington 180 FMJ, Corbon 150 JHP and other potluck stuff. 100% reliability. No drama.

Update on M&P 10mm 4.6.
I just got my pistol back from S&W and to my great disappointment no repairs were done! The factory invoice stated the following: "Cannot Duplicate Customer Complaint, No repairs required, Passed range testing."
So I cannot recommend that anyone buy these pistols and I am extremely disappointed by the company's response.

That's very disappointing. I've had the same thing happen several times over the years. They like to put 15-20 rounds through it and call it good. Here's how I put an end to it. Always include a video with the gun you're sending back for repairs. This way it becomes pretty undeniable.

Stick with it. Document everything. I eventually was able to get a refund for my defective pistol.

BTW, I need to add your experience to the list I'm compiling -- including you, we're looking at 16 reports of the mag drop malfunction that I've been able to find.

I sent my 4.6" 10MM pistol back to S&W as it was having failure to feed issues. My note in the box read: "Evaluate / Repair, Polish Barrel/Chamber, Passed Range Testing".

I was inititally hopful that this would fix it, but I took it to the range after and the same issues persisted. I've tried heavier recoil springs on my own, but no luck the same problems continue. I think it may have something to do with the feed geometry from how the rounds feed from the magazine. It almost looks as if the cartridges are pointed too far vertically, the high slide velocity of the 10MM causes the failure to feeds.

I sent another note to S&W and I'll see if I hear anything back.

Got my M&P 10MM 4.6" back from S&W a second (yes, second) time. This time the note in the box said that they replaced the barrel. I haven't had a chance to take it back out yet but we will see. I am very skeptical. I think the issue is with the magazine.

I'm relatively new to the S&W M&P 10mm 2.0, and also had some misgivings from reading Posts and online reviews. I've made several Posts in this section, too. However, so far my 4.625" 10mm has functioned flawlessly (with Federal 180g FMJ). No F2F, and no uncommanded mag drops. It shoots very accurately to POA from 7 yds - 25 yds with 2-hand Weaver stance, and recoil was milder than I expected. I really like it.

I bought a new m&p 10mm 4.6 back in May. The good news is that it has fed any and all ammo that I have used without any failures to feed or eject. I use mostly 180 grain loads. Now for the bad news: after about 300 rounds, the pistol started ejecting the magazine during firing! The first time this happened I thought I might have hit the mag release button accidentally, but then it happened two more times. I made certain that my fingers were no where near the mag release the last two times this happened. This occurred with the two separate magazines that came with the pistol. I have contacted S&W about this and I am waiting for their reply. By contrast, I have a Springfield Armory XDM 10mm that has gone through at least a thousand full power loads with no issues at all. I really love M&P pistols and I am quite disappointed by this. I hope that S&W will make this right….

With regard to your magazines falling out, I had a recent experience with my magazine suddenly falling out repeatedly.

I believe the problem is caused by the size and shape of the bullet coming close enough to the retaining notch of the magazine and pushing the magazine release open momentarily.

You can read my full explanation of why it's true in my case in Post #255 of this thread.
Problem with M&P 10mm + Customer Service Nightmare

Owning both the S&W 4" 10mm and a RIA FSHC 1911 the Rock runs circles around the M&P. Not only is the Rock more accurate, it feeds all types of ammo, has way less recoil. I would not be afraid to shoot hot loads through it. Grant it is a heavy pistol so as a carry weapon for CCW it is a short coming, but who carries a 10mm for self defense. That's just a little over kill. My RIA smokes the M&P in all aspects of reliability and accuracy. And I am a huge S&W fan, they build some of the best pistols for the money you can buy.
