I firmly agree with Texas Star on the pistol-what interested me was the other story on the link regarding a Gentleman who's home was raided because he was growing Okra in his garden! Check it out.

Not understanding the dislike for polymer in a military gun.

My beef with that weapon is that the bore axis must be in low Earth orbit.

The G17 and its polymer frame have proven service records with more than a few militaries. Some very "hard use" type units use it with great results.

Well, okra is slimy stuff. My mother used to eat it. But she was from Arkansas. :D

Don't let Caj or Louisiana Joe hear you say that. Slimy isn't mandatory. :D

Apart from training changes I don't see why a striker-fired, polymer-framed pistol wouldn't be a valid choice for military issue, but I've never experienced combat of the non-marital variety. The (gasp!) G17 seems to have quite a track record.

I've examined my son in law's new P320 pistol..a .40S&W version.

It's a pretty novel design..seems oriented to the owner who can't leave their guns alone and 'need' to stick parts on their gun...

Many pistols would be suitable M9 replacements, but the acquisition process is so convoluted and political the "best" gun is unlikely to win, or at least is no more likely to win than an inferior weapon.

Ever shoot a Sig? It's really not as big a deal as you would think. Maybe if you are fighting milliseconds on a timer but for anything else it isn't. The CG's DAK trigger model is a dream to shoot. But then I may be biased as I'm a fan of most of their product line.

It's not as bad as people think. The Classic Sigs are tall in he bore axis catagory (so are Springfield XD's). The 320 is lower than a classic P2xx. I put several hundred rounds thru a 9mm & .40 P320 fullsize the LE Sig rep dropped off at the PD Range. Frankly I didn't really notice any difference between the P320 .40 & my Glock 23 as far as muzzle flip/rise. In fact, the 320 was incredibly accurate & didn't slap my hand as hard as the G23. Ideally, the compact frame/slide would have been nice to play with, but the rep could only get 2 full size.

The trigger on the P320 is FAR better than a Glock, M&P & most striker guns. The new Styer S/M/L series have very good striker triggers too. I had two of them for T&E and they are slick!

I may have to get some 320's for business purposes. They are that good in my opinion. They also use P226 sights. Sig is going to offer tabbed triggers & manual safeties too for the admin stooges that mandate such useless contrivances.

Indeed, what's all this "bore axis" anxiety? Revolvers have the highest of bore axis & no one gripes about that.

It's been a long time in coming. The M9 is getting old & beat up. The grips are huge & the U.S. military STILL has two handguns; Sig M11 & Beretta M9. The U.S. wants modularity, something the P250 & P320 offer; one serialized trigger group that can be changed for grip size, gun size and even calibers if needed. The modularity of the P320 isn't just frames & slides, the trigger group & striker are also replaceable as a module. No part fitting, milling & time consumption. Fix & run. Kinda like the Styer AUG, everything is in modular groups.

Makes sense, how many fighter & helo crews want a full size 5" handgun? Most want the M11. So, they're issued the trigger group & they can now choose full or compact & grip size. There's plenty of male & female MP's that struggle with the M9 grip. A system like the P320/250 makes sense.

All these rumors. When did the Government actually say they were
looking for a M9 replacement? I must have missed it.

"THIS IS A DRAFT RFP FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT PROPOSALS."

"The Modular Handgun System (MHS) will consist of a new handgun, ammunition, supporting accessories, and spare parts. The system will consist of a full size and compact handgun or just one handgun that meets full size and compact requirements. The MHS will replace the existing family of handguns in Army inventory, leverage commercial technology to mitigate gaps and shortcomings in presently fielded weapons, and counter current and emerging threats. The MHS is planned as a competitive acquisition seeking a commercial/Non-Developmental Item solution to provide Warfighters with a best-value system that features increased lethality, increased accuracy, improved ergonomics, and a higher degree of reliability/durability over legacy handgun systems"

Yea I don't see a problem either. What was the last hammer fired rifle? This is the military, gun has to work and be consistent. It's not a BBQ gun

The AK, M16, M4 and the M14 all have hammers along with the vast majority of other military semi and automatic rifles. Internal but there.
