Is there a better photo sharing site than Photbucket?

I have been using Photo Bucket. Ever since they changed the whole format, any edits I do get distorted or do not work at all when I post a picture. All I do is crop and used to do auto correct. It used to work fine, now what's up??:(:(

Photobucket is about the best you can do for free. I know a couple of people who sing the praises of SmugMug, but it costs. Still, I may be about to make the move because the Photobucket editor just keeps getting more limited and peculiar. I don't know if SmugMug has an incorporated editor, but I am about to go completely to local computer image adjustment anyway, and just skip the online services.

I confirm that cropping a photo in the most recent incompletely baked Photobucket editor and doing a "replace original" save doesn't work. You have to save a copy and then delete the full frame original if you want to have only the improved image on the site. I am probably wound a little too tight on this point, but if you take the trouble to light an image properly, then the single best thing you can do to improve it is to crop it properly. That should be dirt simple, and it is beyond me why Photobucket can't get this right.

As an aside, I don't see what difference it makes who owns the service, or any service for that matter. If the owner is somebody you respect, there's no problem. If the owner is someone you detest, you are sticking your thumb in his eye by making free use of his services to support and promote your interests. Isn't getting what you want and sending the bill to someone you disdain one of our culture's great pleasures?

Half kidding, but only half.

David,

When I do any alterations to a photo I replace the original. Then I go to post it say here on the forum and it is the same as the original? Thought I was crazy, well I am a bit but it was fine before the new and improved version:rolleyes:

I'm gonna leave a few photos in photoshop...

The ones that are connected to pertain threads here on the forum.

Then I'll be looking for a better (easy to use like the old photobucket was) kinda thing as well.

If we could only paste pics in the body of the text and not have to do an attachment thing.

I'm too old for all this aggravation any-hows.

I've been using Flickr for years without any issues. It's free. Once a photo has been uploaded, you get links to different sizes of that photo automatically. Worth checking out. It's run by Yahoo.

You and me both, brother...

I readily admit I'm not the smartest when it comes to techknowledgey...I can't even spell it right. (Pun intended.) I'm sure there are good and valid reasons why you can't just copy a picture from your computer and paste it in a thread here....but darned if I know what they are, or why.

Seems like it would be so much simpler if you could.

Storage space costs money. Traffic bandwidth to upload/download the photos cost money. Then you get into copyright issues: are really authorized to store and show that picture on your site? is the person that uploaded the pic the legal copyright owner? By just using a link when making a post, this site and it's owners are somewhat protected. The image comes from the site that's hosting it - not this site. I'm sure there are other reasons also.

The attachment thing as part of the forum is fine and easy but it limits the size of the pictures.

Give this one a try.You can use one account free and they also have a pay account you can do.$20 bucks a year or less if I remember right. The service belongs to Greybeard's site.Works great and easy to use.Been using it for three years or so.

My Hosted Pics

I have been on a watch forum for several years (IHC185) and I can upload watch photos from my photo files on my computer, I wish you could here instead of Photobucket. Jeff

I use my own web server. Not free, but I get to post
whatever I want. IE: I can post any size, still or video, etc..
But I've started using u-toob for videos..
You can paste images. That's the way I've always done it.

**
typing
after it, ensuring
that you do not have any spaces before or after the URL
of the image. **

Usually, on most forums, the picture will show with the
thread, but will be downsized to fit the page better.
You can then click on the image to see it full size.
If I remember right, that is how it works here.

I'll try one here.. Been restoring old Coleman lanterns
lately.. Have a whole mess of em going back to 1919..
This is one that came out pretty good.
A Coleman Quicklite 427, built in October 1925.
This was the first model that had the pump built onto
the lantern. My older ones use a separate hand pump,
that is not part of the lantern.

I'm using the image tags above to post it into the thread.
It looks full size to me right now, but after I send it, it
should show on the page downsized and clickable for
full size. I think..

1925-2.jpg

Yep.. It worked..
