Is This a 629 S&W Cylinder Please?

I got it in a bunch of assorted parts. Note the number 538 etched in the yoke instead of a normal stamped type number I have on my other Smiths.

it is a 44 Mag. chambering for sure. A 45 Colt cartridge does not fit.

Diameter is: 1.710"
OAL is: 1.704"

Many thanks in advance..... Duck

Do you have calipers to check the throat size? A spent 44 mag case would tell you too. The cylinder chambers look big enough to be 44 or 45.

There have been no recessed chambers in center fire Smith & Wesson revolver cylinders since the changeover in 1982.

Going by the yoke, 29-6. (The long locking cuts in the cylinder started with the -3Es.) And pre-mid 1990s given the old style extractor ("ejector"). Nothing odd, otherwise, that i can tell.
