Fella is offering me a 9mm, 4" 2.0 for $475.

It's got a bunch of "extras" and I'm wondering if the price is fair? (I haven't seen gun in person but he says it's in very good shape.)

-Night Vision Tritium night sights with green high viz front sight
-4 mags
-Floyds Custom magwell
-Floyds Custom mag base plates (Factory plates included)
-Apex Duty/Carry Action Enhancement Trigger Kit
-OWB Kydex Holster (right handed)
-IWB Appendix Holster (right handed)

I'm not too concerned with the holsters, but I do a FO on all my guns, the Apex is something probably around $100 plus smith if I don't install myself, and the mags gotta be at least $25 each so two is another $50 bucks. Never done custom base plates or mag well, what are they worth?

I've got a 2.0 5" M&P and really like it a whole bunch and I'm wanting a striker-fired carry gun. After checking out all the possibles, I'm sold on the M&P, just want to be sure I'm not being taken advantage of. (The price seems fair.....but)

It depends on your definition of "fair". From the cost of the modifications and added accessories the seller is losing money on the deal, so if the package appeals to you and the gun is in good condition the price is a good one. Good luck in your decision.

new cost
2.0 Compact 9mm $399
(2 mags included)

additional mag $28 per

you're not worried about the holsters
do you really want the Tritium sites?

key factor : used... do you know the guy well ?
$475 ? no way....

you can buy new and not have to worry about buying a problem

If you really want all that extra stuff, (meaning, would you buy it?) $400 would be fair for lightly used. Many used guns look new for a long time if taken care of. How well do you really know the gun? MHO.

It is definitely a fair price if you want those extras.

I read a lot of posts on several firearms forums, and from that I know that a good many people like to fiddle with their guns. They are often posting because it no longer works right and they want advice. Are you confident the seller hasn't done any kitchen table smithing? That would be my concern.

From reading all those forums, I've also gotten the idea that sellers don't usually get a lot for add-ons. Would you actually buy all those modifications and accessories if you had a new pistol?

After putting so much into this gun, why does he want to sell it?

As you said, some people like to fiddle with guns. After they have done everything they can think of the gun gets boring and they sell it for something new.

I have a few guns that serve a purpose and do not get casually traded off or sold. But I usually have a few guns I own because I was curious about them or they just sounded interesting. They usually stay around a few months to a few years, sometimes get modified or accessorized and get sold when they are no longer interesting.

But if I was the OP I would pass on this gun since he plans to carry it. Buying someone else's project gun is fine if you want something for the range but with the exception of changing sights carry guns should be stock unless you are certain whoever modified them knew what they were doing. Sights, base plates and mag wells are pretty hard to mess up but it is pretty common for amateur gunsmiths to get carried away in the search for the perfect trigger pull.

Buying a new one for $400 and putting exactly the sights he wants on it would be a better choice.

I would rather buy the gun new with a factory warranty and install the night sights of my choice. My own 2.0 compact does not need a trigger kit and other than the extra magazines the other items would have no value for me. For me.

I do occasionally buy used guns but only stock ones. I don't want a gun where someone has stuck in after market internal parts. They may have done it right or maybe not.

OP, you asked for opinions. My own is that the seller is asking too much. He seems to think you value each of these accessories as much as he did when he bought them. And now he wants rid of them? I would stay away.

OP, good luck with whatever choice you make.
