Is this guy running a hoax?

I remember the morning they showed it on fox and it was supposed to be a sure thing but then the FDA shut him down. But he still has a sight up accepting money. He does have a small disclaimer but it seems like he would want to make sure it was a go before making promises.

I really thought it was a good idea so I want him to be real.I can see it as a back up for a back-up possibly.

He gets shut down by the FDA

I have to say I think its a stupid idea. Dosen't look anythong like a gun, and I am sure more than one person will end up going through Granny purse looking for some breath mints or lifesavers and then say "Oh, whats this?" Bang. Might probably be listed as a "gadget gun" by the Feds. But hey, what do I know. I think a gun should look like a gun.

Trying to market a handgun, of any type, as a medical device as it may be easier to operate by people who are elderly or disabled, is a fraud. The FDA was right in stating the firearm, which is what it is, is NOT a medical device.

Good point on the fancy PEZ dispense analogy I do always seem to view things for my own selfish reasons.

Hell, I'm not "that" disabled yet, and I'd like to have one! I imagine it would be far easier to get up under someone's chin, than a more recognizable shape would be?
(EDIT) FWIW, I think this product and a discussion about it was going on here about 1, 1 1/2 years ago, IIRC?

I didn't know about that but I do think that if the guy is taking people's money and not producing he should be shut down.
So maybe I should rephrase the question, Does anyone think this guy might be ripping people off?

Any one building guns for resale must have a fed. lic., where is his ?

Maybe stupid but not new, Chicago Palm Pistol (ca 1883) :

Not looking like a gun sometimes is the whole idea, I would guess.

Like the cell phone gun :

Looks like a legitimate company: Constitution Arms

You stole my thunder 5Wire. I was also going to mention that the idea was at least 100 years old. I have seen the example in your picture. Maybe a dumb idea, but it's got to work?

Many years ago, Johnny Carson had a guest who described himself as a "former secret agent" who was now free lancing. He mentioned being injured many times and actually having lost a finger. He told Carson (and later demonstrated) that his prosthetic index finger was actually a pistol! It was a single shot .22 that looked like a real (prosthetic) finger. I believe he had a flap of sorts that he could open to access the breech for loading. When he fired it I thought Carson was going to soil his underwear. He said he actually used it in anger once when he was being held by someone.

Has anyone ever seen or heard of this? I have done a quick Google and found nothing.

Frank

The FDA does not consider it a medical device, but the ATF approved it as a handgun, so its legal to manufacture. I don't see why the FDA's decision would make it a hoax.

Woo-hoo! A single shot pistol the size of many semi-autos or revolvers. Only $300 wow! What a deal, not!

I think if I wanted anything even remotely like that, I would add another $75-$100 and get a 'Bond' derringer. Made of stainless steel instead of plastic (oops 'scuse me, I ment 'hi-impact space age polymer') And, you get two shots.

What if you were Double Oh CajunLawyer and needed to appear unarmed?

Sneezer,
The long and short of it is, no it was not a hoax. Sorry I was just having some fun with it earlier, having seen it go around the track the first time. Far as I'm concerned though in all seriousness, one ought to be included in every first mailing of a social security check.
But that could very well be due to my prejudice towards trusting older people?

I agree with Caj, this thing just doesn't look enough like a gun for me, and could easily be mistaken for something else with unfortunate consequences.

There was a discussion about it in the Lounge some time ago. I think the funniest quip went something like "ma, granpa just shot himself with his inhaler!"

I think there was an episode of Get Smart where max got out smarted by the old gun in the finger trick. And I would swear there was a toy one that came out that shot caps. Who knows
