is this a mag problem? 4506 problem

this is happening to my 4506. when i load 8 rounds in the mag, i put it in the gun, chamber a round, and then when i try to eject the mag to put another round in it it comes out just a little, it doesnt fall all the way down. sometimes when i manually pull it out the next bullet, the one on top will just pop out as i pull out the mag.

i took apart the gun and there is copper residue from the bullet rubbing and scraping the top corner or the mag well. after i chamber a round sometimes the mag will come all the way out, but the next bullet, the one on top will be pushed out a little bit.

Normal operation. The yellow follower mags started to address this and the newest black follower with the square indents on the feedlips usually hold the round back.

mine came with the yellow follower. the black one should fit no problem right? how does it help keep the round in place if it is on the bottom?

The yellow followers had a slot at the rear to clear the indents at the rear of the feedlips. The earlier orange followers won't work in those mags, hince the "use yellow followers only" on the side of the mag tube. The newest black follower will work in all the tubes but it is really the square indents on the new tubes' feedlips that helps hold the rounds back. It's the friction of the loading round dragging the next round down forward till the bullet nose hits the feedramp stopping it. If you remove the mag at this point, say to top off, offen the top round will flip up and fall out.

yes thats exactly my problem. i dont recall seeing the use yellow follower only on the mag well. so there really no cure for this problem?

The newest black follower mags with the square indents does a good job of holding back the top round. They hold the next round a little lower in the tube. It's really not a problem, the gun will function fine, just sometimes a inconvenience when topping off.

Mine did that when I first got it. I have a no dash model with the hooked guard and these came from the factory with the orange followers in the mags. My gun had one of these in it when I bought it used last year. I mangaged to pick up two of the black follower equipped mags at a pawn shop the day after I got the gun.

Guess what? One of the mags with black followers would hang up just like you described with yours. The problem, on close examination, was noted to be a slight deformation of the left side magazine feed lip, on this particular magazine it was causing a hang up on the ejector when trying to drop the magazine.

If you look closely at the ejector/mag safety lever(same part), you'll notice a small angled protrusion that is on the outboard side of the part. The protrusion is what allows for the ejector to rest on top of the left side rear of the mag's feed lip. It's critical that the ejector rest right on top of the very edge of that feed lip, not to the right of it, or the two will hang each other up and prevent the mag from falling clear without manual removal.

A minor tap of a small hammer and a quick swipe of a file on the top rear of the magazine lip to reshape it a bit and then create a flat for the ejector to rest on fixed the problem. I suspect that variations in the manufacturing of the mags resuted in some mags that don't have properly shaped feed lips, resulting in this problem and causing the hang ups.
