I've been finding this scat around the place lately. I think it's a black bear. I have deer, raccoons, bobcats, coyotes, fox, and other assorted critters pass thru but I've never seen this before. I know nothing about bears except to give them lots and lots of room. I found these this morning under a crab apple tree that's dropping fruit. Am I right?

Looks like Black Bear poop to me........
They only "Scat" in the great outdoors-like the Rockies or Alaska or some place that's beautiful and scenic.
You never hear them saying hey look, Dog scat, now do ya?????????
Actually the word I usually use starts with the same letter as Scat, and in a remarkable coincidence also contains four letters, one vowel and ends in a "T" .
We'll end this here. ;)

That doesn't look like any bear poop I ever saw. I see it all the time in Cheyenne Canyon it's usually long not a pile and ity usually has clearly visible undigested leaves and such in it.

That's what I thought!

Thought they only went in the woods...

I work up in the mountains and every so often I get visiting bears. A couple weeks ago I had one stop to take a big ol BM in my parking lot! This fella was pretty good-sized, maybe about 300 lbs or so. Made me think pretty hard about the 638 in my pocket (I just stayed indoors). :)

It was quite the pile, much bigger than what is pictured. It kinda had a "nuts and berries" look to it, but I didn't really investigate too closely either.

I generally don't need a can of Shine-ola for reference, but then, I'm no expert. :D

Two bruins, travelin' side by side, sharin' a butt, I'd say.

Either that, or the weirdest version of the shell game I ever saw.

It doesn't look like most bear scat I have seen up here, but of course up here they usually smell like whatever garbage the city people left for them. They refuse to eat the city people on general principal, most bears hate junk food.

Looks like it, sounds like it (from the description). When I did my study, I analyzed about 200 samples. Those from avocados looked like guacamole. Wild cherries had heart-shaped seeds and cherry skins. Trash bears had McDonald and KFC wrappers. Bears are a lot like humans in that way. What they eat and how they are feeling very a lot.

This resembles those from figs and pomegranates (except for the seeds).

It looks very similar the scat they leave around here. We have a lot of bears so we see a lot of scat. Most looks like it was smashed biscuits of poop stacked one on another in a pile. Of course, the garbage can divers can look like anything because they're not eating their natural food.

We advise the outdoorsman to wear little noisy bells on clothing so as to give advanced warning to any bears that might be close by so you don't take them by surprise.

We also advise anyone using the outdoors to carry "Pepper Spray" with him in case of an encounter with a bear.

Outdoorsmen should also be on the watch for fresh bear activity, and be able to tell the difference between black bear feces and grizzly bear feces. Black bear feces is smaller and contains lots of berries and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear scat has bells in it and smells like pepper.

Looks just like the bear poo we have up here in NH, but they don't smoke Pall Mall here, strictly Marlboro or a pipe....:p

By the looks of it, decent sized bear. Wanna git curious? Take a stick and break it apart....you surely see the bruin's diet habits. The fact that it's by the crabapple means the fruit was easy to obtain for it.
