My favorite movie. You know what it is. Jack Wilson was a mixture of cool and pure evil. I don't much like the pinkish Franzite grips but that gun rig! Wow!! I made a double lightweight rig long ago designed to put the guns up front like his. I didn't make an exact copy but I should of. The guns are very fast in that position. That's a pair of Pasta Blasters (EMF) in my rig.

He was the COOLEST. He's billed as Walter "Jack" Palance in that fine film.

Poor Elisha Cook, Jr. He never had a chance.

That is the first movie I ever saw.
Wyatt, that is one fine lookin' rig.

You don't need to take a back seat to anyone with your hide cuttin' and stampin'.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Iggy. Very appropriate for that to be the first movie you saw when you are in Wyoming. If that's where you were then. When in Jackson, Wy. in 1988 I asked a guy in buckskins where the remnants of the Shane sets were and he gave me dirrections to what looked pretty much like Van Heflins homestead. Years later I found out all but one building was gone and the ones I saw weren't from the movie. But the scenery there! Wow!

I always thought that Jack Palance was the best, most evil bad guy that ever appeared in a Western. Many have tried since, but no one has ever bested him!

Jack Palance and later Henry Silva were two of the type cast heavies that could be counted on to bring the "bad guy" to whatever part they played. Something about their dark looks and even their voices had a "feral" quality to it. Both were said to be really nice guys, but they could play the coldest murderer to most folk's wildest imaginations.

Jack Palance and his daughter later hosted some show about the paranormal. Can anyone recall the name of that show?

Wyatt Burp-

Why are the muzzles of the guns sticking out below your holsters? Were the holsters made for shorter-barelled guns?

That double rig was actually made for these shorter Colts. Jack Wison's rig in Shane had unusual tie downs. He carried 4 3/4" Colts but the holsters were closed at the bottom and the hole for the tie down went right through the front of the holsters, through the back skirt, then wrapped twice around his leg. What was cool about this rig in the fim was it's a buscadero (drop loop) outfit that someone in the 1880's might conceivably have put together. It ain't your typical, mythical Hollywood rigs. The big difference here is the slots for the holsters are cut on a straight belt with no drop loop area. I've seen a couple old Texas Ranger pics where this was actually done.

Wyatt, a lot of those shane scene,s were shot at kelly wyoming. About 6 miles north of jackson you turn northeast and go about another 8 miles. It`s been almost 50 years since I was there when I worked for the NPS, but some of the buildings were still there.

I agree... but on a more modern note.:)

He was a bad man too!

This was my favorite character in Tombstone. He was really bad but they showed him as a three dimentional guy who had fun and a sense of humor...when he wasn't murdering people. And that outfit! Two gunbelts crisscrossed and those card hands on his boots.

Ya make the right turn at the Gros Ventre intersection and follow that road to Kelly. Ive camped at the GV campground "more than once".
