Is this normal?

Well I wanted to talk with the gs I know first. The reason I used bps to send my gun back, was the idea I wouldn't have to be home to receive it. I don't think a firearm would be left on the porch for me. Nobody else but me. The bps gs is totally out of touch with reality. I am going to call the head gunsmith monday when he gets back from vacation. I just need to be tactful though, not easy in this case. btw, no bogarting going on here, I treat my guns like gold, pamper them, and very picky. Maybe the gs gal at bps was bogarting, wouldn't suprise me. $#%^%$

Thanks, just wondering if that could be a factor, maybe by a previous owner if the gun was used.

Hmmmm.... My new 686 SSR looks exactly like that except rotated 180 degrees.

I agree. Send it back on S&W's shipping label and have them go completely through it. They will make it right and it will be better than a new, un-tested one.

Just picked up my S&W a couple hours ago. Everything looks great, and the firing pin bearing looks like normal now. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but it shot great before I sent it in. I expect the same now.

Yes my firing pin bushing looks like yours.
Shipped the 5th and back the 12th?

Two other nits with my 686 SSR revolver are when cocking in single action it is a bit rough when the hammer comes back down on the sear and the ejector rod is getting scratched up from some sharp edges.

A student put the first 45 rounds through it. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.

It only took 1 week to get back? Did you get all the problems resolved? How old is you gun?

I have not sent my revolver in for repair. I'm gonna shoot it some to see if there are any other problems. I got it new in Dec 2008. From your posts I thought you sent yours back to S&W with the week turnaround. My mistake.

it was only a week turn around. This was the 2nd gun issued to me. the first gun was bought back by Bass pro shop due to irreversible damage. The 2nd gun was sent back on a wed, and I got it back on the next friday(1 1/2 wks).
I have yet to shoot it yet, maybe tonight.

A little late on posting, but, I have shot about 300 rounds thru it, including 50 mags, and everything feels real nice. This gun is very accruate and comfy to shoot. This is the gun I expected to get when I first purchased it.

You have most likely been told already, but I have sent more than one smith back to the factory and they have never had one more than a 6 day turn around on a gun of mine... Your choice but save your self some time and send it in yourself. You will have it back much sooner.
