Is This Odd?

I'm looking for a Ruger Blackhawk, 4 5/8" barrel, in 41 magnum to complement a Henry 41 carbine. It has to be the Ruger because one similar was the very first special order placed for a customer when I got a shiny new FFL in the '70s.

Used revolvers of this model in any condition are more expensive than commonly available new ones (from $639 to $656).

Am I missing something?

I picked up an early 3-screw from an estate and won't be parting with it anytime soon. It's more fun to shoot than a .44 Mag and I haven't seen many on the market.

That's really nice, mine has a few more miles on it but they are wonderful shooters.

Are the used ones you're seeing Old Models? There are quite a few people who prefer the older, three screw, action over the later two pin w/transfer bar. There are people converting Old Models that received the upgrade back to the original setup. If the ones you're looking at are the later version then I haven't got a clue why they would be higher unless they are somehow different than what's available now.

Odd? Of course not. Pairing a handgun with a rifle or carbine has been done since the 1800's. I have a matched pair of Colt SAA revolvers and a Marlin lever action carbine all in 45 Colt. Very sensible and convenient - especially for shooting Cowboy Action matches.

Your hunt will probably be a bit longer because of the caliber - at least that is what I am thinking. Good luck with the hunt.

Seems like just a few years ago, a Ruger Security Six in any finish and any barrel length in excellent condition was $250-$300. Now most are listed at between $500-$700. Looks like the old single action Ruger revolvers have followed that pattern also.
