Is this True or False.
I went to my L.G.S. yesterday & he mentioned that S&W as well as Ruger is no longer taking any orders for new firearms?

They are so back lodged it will take months to fill all the back orders.
Only know what he said.
Any help here?
I just purchased a S&W M&P 15/22, Standard. May be the last one for awhile. It was $599.99. I thought it was high but they had it in stock. Will pick it up next week.

Ruger announced last year they were backordered something like a million units. That was before the present panic. Demand for the SR1911 probably exceeded even their wildest expectations.

Given the present climate & just looking at the bare cases in the local stores I would believe it.

My range has a minty P89 in the case for $450... ;)

I have to agree most likely they are no longer taking new orders from distributors. This will most likely only last a few months while they catch up to demand. They have literary seen entire warehouses of inventory wiped out over night.

Now that's how to put people back to work in this economy. If politicians were smart they would be having a photo op in front of The S&W factory talking about putting people to work.

My gut feeling last spring it was time to grab all the new S&W N frames in nickel finish. Now the cupboards are bare. I may have to jump off the S&W ship and grab another 1911. (thompson or RIA)

Ya now... S&W makes 1911s. Just sayin'. ;)

The RIA Tactical is an excellent pistol though...@ 1/3 - 1/2 the price.

I have had a SW1911 on order for over 13 months. They may make 1911s but they sure don't make many of them.

I think S&W's last financials said they have a $1.22 million dollar backlog. And that was a month ago, probably not getting any better anytime soon.

Correction: At October 31, 2012, firearm backlog was $332.7 million

That may seem true, if the ones "buying" them are actually paying for them. Wonder how many of the recent gun purchases were made on credit cards by people that cannot actually pay for them.

1911s were red hot sellers in 2011 (100th anniversary, etc.) and I guess a lot of people are still buying 'em. I know the guys on Calguns are generally a younger more tacticool type but even they are intersted in trying out 1911s and classic revolvers. Good times! :D

My local Turners has a whole case usually devoted to 1911s of various makes. It is pretty clean right now. The 1911 case at the range I go to is empty. ;)

I just saw my first and only Remington 1911 (enhanced edition) at the shop yesterday. Damn nice gun, great trigger. If I was more of a 1911 fan I would buy it. I have a couple and they are all the same to me.

This isn't the first time Ruger has done this, and it doesn't surprise me given the Panic that I have witnessed at Gun stores and Online Stores.

It seems like the right thing for them to do for now until they can catch up with Demand

I know I love my RIA.

One thing in America

If I buy a gun it will an American make, because America STILL makes great guns and it will keep Americans at work. And if somebody asks me what I've got I want to be able to say 'American made Smith and Wesson 686' rather than 'Chinese made Ding Hao copy of a Smith and Wesson 686. Keep the American gun industry alive or like everything else, WE WILL LOSE IT!

I ordered a M&P upper directly from the S&W website on 12/12 - before the shooting. Not only do I not have it, I've spent hours on hold trying to get a status (I did get an order acknowledgement when I placed the order).

I figure I'm at the bottom of the list.
