I read this on another forum:

"There exists a few examples of a gun (Model 73 I think) that was similar to the Colt Police Positive Special in size; a petite 6 shot .38Special. Most were destroyed. I have no idea why."

Is this true? If so, why were they destroyed?

Yes. Look it up in the Standard Catalog of S&W. They were called a 'C' frame. If I remember, the problem was a unique offset cylinder lock that never worked right.
