Is Wal-Mart slowly stopping ammo sales?

Haven't been in a Target store in just about never. WalMart is going the same way. No Loss. I've bought 99% of my ammo online for about 10 years, we'll see how that goes, or not. Joe

Not a single Walmart near me has had anything other than the sporadic box of shotgun shells for over a year.
Last ammo I got from Walmart was last fall, maybe a couple weeks before the election. I spent a little over 60 bucks, for 4 boxes of Federal 30-30. I'll give them credit, that seemed like a non-panic price to me at the time.

I remember reading a couple weeks afterwards, 30-30 was impossible to find online under something like $2 a rd. Don't shoot it a lot, but do keep some around for the Winchester 94.

Like 'em or hate 'em, they did tend to keep prices down for whatever they could sell. We're going to feel their departure from the ammo sales business once supplies go back to normal.

Walmart is no longer an American company. Began back in the early '90's after old man Walton passed away. Was part of a military delegation hosting a group of Uzbek senior NCOs and officers. Took them shopping one evening to a Walmart and they were very excited but started flipping out when they found that most of the shoes were made in China. That was when Walmart began its transition from promoting American made products to supporting slave labor and undercutting the American market. They spread their money around to other countries without real notice here in America. Over the past several years they've given tens of millions, perhaps hundreds, to the Zakouma game park in Chad, of all places. While the park is a noble enterprise and a beautiful place to visit, it's hard to understand why a supposedly American company would not invest more significantly in the very country that butters its bread...

I have been working part time at the local wally world in the sporting goods dept for the last few years since the gun store I worked at closed. This current ammo crisis has been a real wild one, worse than any of the ones I dealt with when I worked full time in the gun business. For a long time now people have been in a panic buying mode such that whatever came in they will buy it... ALL of it. Of course this also brings out the ammo flippers who realize they can make a quick buck on the ammo too.

Even though wally world doesn't sell any regular handgun ammo or "evil" assault rifle ammo any more we still stock (or try to!) a decent selection of hunting rifle ammo, 22's and shotgun shells. Corporate finally sent out a notice telling stores they should impose purchase limits to give more customers a chance at getting product (and prevent the flippers from getting it all). They did the same thing @ 2010 or so when a similar situation was going on with ammo (though at least then the shotgun shells never dried up).

Since we are only getting small quantities of rifle and 22 ammo we started putting shotgun shells in the locked cases. Really it's the only way we could enforce a 3 box limit as before the shotgun shells were out on the open shelves and could be payed for at any register with just an age confirmation (and without changing the register prompts the overworked front end cashiers were unlikely to realize there was a limit).

It wouldn't surprise me if down the road they abandon the gun and hunting sales chainwide but so far they seem to want the money enough to keep at least some stores selling both............. And even where they have done away with gun sales they are still selling ammo. The problem at the moment is every store has empty shelves and the ammo arriving at the warehouse is being divided across the backlog of orders for all those stores so it's rare to get any big quantity of anything on a delivery.

If people slow down the panic buying (and the ammo flippers are brought under control) things should stabilize a little and those who do shop there should be able to find ammo on the shelf............... For those who just hate the place and never shop there it shouldn't be an issue anyway.
