Believe it or not.
Went to Bass Pro to pick up the gun I ordered last week that came in today. Ruger American Predator in .308 NATO, prepaid when ordered.
They refuse to sell it to me due to the fact that back during COVID They stopped changing your address on your license until it was renewed, which for me is my 76th birthday, November of 2026!!!!!!!!!! At first I was mad. The DMV has to do something to notify anyone who goes there online gets the new address.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:.
Two hours and I leave without the gun. Tomorrow I go to the DMV to get it straightened OUT. The manager is trying his best to get the deal done but no dice.
I notice a rifle on the rack that has one of the most gorgeous pieces of wood on it I have ever seen :love::love::love: I take a look at it and it's a Stevens-Savage in 6.5 creedmore. It's marked at $479 but it's got a couple of imperfections in the stock. They know that and offer it to me at 15% off which is right at $72 and that brings it down to just over $400.
The stock is worth half of that or more, tiger striped all down the right side.
I said what the heck. I'll get the DMV stuff straight in the morning then just come back and buy both of them!!!!!!
The 6.5 creedmoor will work fine with my garage sale scope out to 1200 yards. The vertical adjustment limit is 40 1/4 MOA clicks which means the .308 will only go 800 yards with that adjustment range. Looks like I'll just get a regular 3X9 scope for the Ruger.
That round 6.5 creedmore is based on the case that was used in Thompson center pistols starting with the .30 cal. 6.5X48 is operating at 65000 PSI pressure.
The world is turned upside down, buy a rifle to fit a scope, end up with two rifles and a WOODIE :D:D:D:D:D:D:D. I'll post some pics whenever this gets sorted out.

Now here is the truly crazy thing. Bought 3 vehicles since we moved here 3/3/2022. All are registered at his address (New one). Got a voter ID card, renewed tags and registrations on new vehicles and used vehicles all purchased since moving here. The only thing that is still under the old address is the front of the drivers license that was issued in 2016 at the old address. DMV will not even let me just just renew the license early to stop all this POOP from being a continuing to make life difficult when there is no reason to do that.
I remember the sign on a parts managers office 40 years ago when I lived in Houston Texas.
"In order to really foul things up you need a computer".
I'll add
"a computer is the perfect excuse for lazy and incompetent employees."

They won't accept a vehicle registration as a secondary ID? I was an FFL dealer for years and my part time retirement job is the sporting goods counter of a walmart. The 4473 has a section for secondary ID's if a customer has moved and even wally world accepts them (and they're more strict than the ATF on gun sales). There is a simple list of ATF acceptable ones and vehicle registrations are on the list. Ohio also will issue a "State Change of Address" card through the DMV if you move and don't want to spend the money for a drivers license renewal and that is acceptable too. Does Virginia not have such an option?

After an hour the DMV decided to charge me $20 to fix my license. They have gone back to the pre Covid 30 day requirement to change your license address. Mine has only been wrong for 3 years and 4 months and cost me fines and other such stupidity. They send renewal notices on new vehicles I have bought, but the change of address is like a black hole that remains forever wrong and seems to be impossible to actually fix. Today that ENDED! I got to bring home two rifles, one with the scope mounted on it waiting for ammo and a range where I can actually sight it in. I'll get a photo for y'all soon. The tiger striping is gorgeous. Sale price was 15% off $480 so $72 off makes it $407, plus tax.IMG_0838.jpgIMG_0839.jpg

So $807 for the scope and rifle. Look the scope up on Amazon and the best price is $1099 plus another $72 in Va state tax, Rifle was $479 with two nicks which got that reduced by $72 bucks.

They only accepted the letter from DMV that supplemented my current license for 30 days until I get the new License.
Supposedly you can do it online but both of my email addresses are new, as well as my home address. We moved to the condo 3/3/22. This is the first time including gun gun show purchases and auction purchases that were run through a FFL without a problem.

The elevation adjustment allows 10 MOA (40 clicks) total vertical adjustment. With the 6.5X48 creedmore round that is around 1200 yards. The height of the mounts above the bore will add some to that distance. The .308 would have been around 800 yards.

Going to put a 3X9 scope on the Ruger .308. One more bargain to hunt down.

Guy on YouTube sighted the same rifle in with 4 shots to get it centered then shot a 3/8th inch 3 shot group with 5,6,7 rounds.

VA now requires a FFL transfer between private party purchases. I think the address requirement is a Bass Pro thing but I could be wrong. Used to do private buys at shows but I guess as long as the cost is not to crazy I like to KNOW I am the actual owner of record. About 90% of my purchases over the years in the past were private without an FFL involved.
When I restored an original Warner Swasey Sniper 03 Springfield, I actually went to the police station and had them check to see if it was reported stolen. It was a dewatted drill rifle that I paid $100 for. With an original scope, barrel, and bead blasted the chrome off everything then reblued it sold for $2800.
Used to be you could buy from private parties at flea markets, but no more if you want to be legal. I don't like it but it does make you the current owner of record.
Even a concealed carry permit and voter registration card or vehicle registration was not good enough for them.

Found another bargain for $79.99 quite a bit lower by at least $60 even compared to Amazon and even more compared to Bass Pro. Bushnell R3 4X12X40. This can go on the Ruger (.308 NATO) and better matches the bullet drop on that round even beyond 800 Yards. I know the round goes subsonic just below 1000 yards. Used in Plama matches, iron sights shooting to that distance. Started trying to match the $400 scope (killer deal) to a rifle and ended up with two rifle scope combinations that should be great for their respective conditions. I had a $200 Remington in 300 win mag before with a Zeiss 3X9 scope on it before I gave it back to my idiot baby brother. He didn't think it was necessary to give ME back the two 440 round (?) ammo cans of 78 Lake City match ammo that is now around $2 a round. My friend Charlie Bowles passed (2010) and I helped his wife sell his 138 gun collection and she netted over $135k for the sale. She gave me the ammo in return for my efforts. One trip I had 58 of his rifles that I carried to Classic Firearms in Va Beach in my 1994 Honda Civic VX hatchback. Once got 64.8 MPG driving that car to Chantilly and back. 300 miles on 4.627 gallons of fuel (same pump same station, same day). New car will do that with the AC running on cruise control and drive itself. :)

Ah the consolation prize. This was the gun I ordered to use the $400 scope on. When I saw the wood grain on the other rifle and researched the trajectories of the two rounds, I decided that this setup would work better on the greater trajectory of the NATO round. It should work out best with the greater elevation potential of the Bushnell scope I paid $79.99 for, at a pawn shop that beat the Bass Pro price by around $60 (edit). It was made in China (gag, choke) but it carries a lifetime warranty supposedly including physical damage. I actually like the trigger guard integral with the stock and the trigger on this one is a work of art. Got to have something to shoot those garage sale NATO rounds. I can always swap the scopes from one rifle to the other. Wonder how close they will be with factory rails on both. Now I just need to find a range where I can shoot at 300-500 yards.

Does VA still restrict the size of the rear window decal when getting an inspection? When my folks moved up there, mid 70s, an inspection was 2x per year and they would scrape off any decal that was larger than a postage stamp (or thereabouts).
My dad is a diehard Aggie and had a box full of large decals and would stick another on as soon as he got home from the inspection station.

Inspections are once a year now.
Not sure about decals on the rear glass, probably has not changed but just a guess.
Cabellas and Sprotsman both wanted $139.95 versus the $79.95 I paid at a pawn shop LOL. $60 more.
