Issues with JP springs?

Today I (tried) to go shooting after installing a set of JP springs in my 15-22. It only struck hard enough to shoot about 7 rounds. It set off one round, failed one, set one off, failed, then it shot for 5-6 in a row. Then, nothing. Everything in my gun is clean and lightly oiled, and last time it shot great. So this leaves me to think that the hammer spring was too light. Just comparing the hit up against my thumb, the stocker does hit a lot harder, so I would think that resolved it, butI could be wrong, and haven't tested it since going back to the stock, so I was wondering if anyone else had this issue.

You're exactly right. Lighter hammer springs aren't a good idea, 'specially with rimfires that actually require more hit than centerfires do.

Just wondering why you changed out the OE springs?

Lighter pull?
Yea, the plan was to get a slidefire stock, and this seemed like what everyone was running, so I just installed the kit, but I guess most were only doing the trigger spring. (?)

Alright, thanks for the assurance. I just wasn't 100% sure because a handful did go off, but that was it.

IMO The best option for slidefire is CMC 3.5 drop in trigger

My 15-22 with slidefire runs great with CMC trigger, like a sewing machine

I tried wolf reduced weight trigger spring and dico spring that helped but the CMC made it shine

You'll have no light strikes with CMC

Huh! I've run a JP reduced spring set with the stock hammer for a couple thousand rounds now. Federal, Remington, Eley, Winchester and CCI ammunition. All of it went bang with no problems whatsoever.

You will have to have a smooth action to run the JP hammer spring. All 15-22 are different from the factory so none are actually the same, some smooth and some not but those who have polished their trigger are better equipped to handle the JP springs. Try to give the FCG a really good clean and lube and try it again.

Chances are you put one of the springs in wrong because those springs on any factory 15-22 trigger will work 100% of the time. Likely you reversed the hammer spring so that the U-shaped part is on the wrong side of the hammer. I have put those spring an a Geissele Super 3-Gun trigger which gives a measured trigger pull of 1.25 Lbs and it still fires every round clean. So You need to make sure the hammer spring has been inserted properly.

If your Plan is for a Slidefire Stock.... Just get a CMC 3.5# Trigger and call it DONE

I have used the Timney and it worked Fine... but got a CMC and MAN what a difference. The Hammer Kicks like a mule... and eliminates any Light Strikes that can occur with the Slidefire Stock

The Timney is now in my M&P Sport and Love it there..

Definitely considering that, but I got to shoot my dad's .223 and .308 this weekend in the AR platform, and I might have to put those funds towards building one. I think I can hit a lot of sales coming from the shot show and put one together reasonably. Definitely not setting the 15/22 aside, just some of the more ostentatious mods I guess haha.

You nailed it. I couldn't find a clear blow up of the hammer spring set up when I looked for it specifically for an m&p15-22, so it "looked" like I had it in right, but just couldn't tell. Then I came to the shocking realization that it was the same as any other AR15 and a billion close up images and diagrams came up on a search.

I'll leave this here if anyone else has issues.

I know it's been mentioned they're all different, but I'm using the stock hammer and trigger and using the JP reduced yellow springs on both and have not had any issues whatsoever. Have run Wildcat, Federal, Aguila and CCI without issue.

I knew that was it. Could not be anything else. The AR trigger is almost a bulletproof design.
