Never thought I'd have a Model 27 as I just don't see them that often and they always seemed a bit on the expensive side. My hopes all but evaporated during the craze of the last 2+ years. Found one recently, got it for an almost unbelievably low offer, and it came to its new home today.

It's a 27-3 so certainly not as much interest as previous variants. I'd like to have the pin but frankly don't care about recessed cylinders as I find them a bit of a pain to clean properly without adding measurable benefits. This 27-3 has been stored too long in a leather holster and has a few of the characteristic shallow pits left by a suede or spit leather lining on the right side of the revolver. It cleaned up pretty well thanks to copper wool and RenWax. It is in significantly better condition on the inside than on the outside with very little wear apparent. It's a shooter so the fact it's not pristine is of little concern. I'm thrilled to have it.

Nothing wrong with a lack of pin or recessed chambers unless you simply want them. When I was hunting for a 27, I took a hard look at a 27-3 that I finally found. I would have bought it in a heartbeat except the owner didn't realize it wasn't quite an unfired 27-2 and therefore should not price it as such ("But it's a Model 27, these go for big bucks on the internet!!")

I've always been told it's sordid to talk about money but I can't help thinking I got a great deal and am very happy about that as well as having a Model 27. I got it for $600.

Yep, you got a good deal I would have jumped on it for that price. I carried one for several years in my early LEO days. Excellent pistol.

I have to agree. The pin adds nothing to durability and the recessed chambers are difficult to clean. That's a nice Model 27-3 you have, treat it well and enjoy it.

For shootin' there is absolutely nuthin wrong with a -3. I think after you shoot it you will agree.

I agree on the non recessed cyls being OK. I can look at the side of my 29-3 and confirm readily that it is not loaded or that it is.

I look at gun shops like animal shelters. I see a S&W revolver sitting alone on a shelf with a bunch of plastic wonder guns, and I feel sorry for it and want to take it home....

Yep, you definitely got a good deal on that 27-3. Although I usually don't buy N-frames newer than -2s (I prefer P&R revolvers...don't be judgy. LOL!), I might have jumped on that one just like you did! Enjoy!

Nice 27-3. Mine followed me home 3 years ago. Great shooter! It was in a pawn shop and when I saw the (obviously mismarked) price, I knew it needed to be adopted immediately. Enjoy!
