It Helps if You Can Count

Left the State Championship IHMSA Match last Saturday feeling rather badly about the results I got with the 29-3 10 5/8" revolver, despite the fact the new lens made the front sight ever so much sharper! Could NOT figure out why I only managed to connect with only half of the 60 steel critters.

I did have six rounds fail to go off the first time, with no primer indents at all, but kdiver58 came to the rescue and ran a piece of cleaning something into the action before I started shooting one bank. Must have been debris or something inside as no more misfires.

The lighting was also changing rapidly, going from full sun to full cloud in seconds, often three or four times in the allotted firing time of two minutes! Definitely requires a change in POA at longer distances, but sometimes the change came just as the final alignment was set and the last ounce or two on the trigger being added. Not good!

Also felt the need to do a front sight adjustment on Rams, but not much came of it.

Drat. Rather below par, I felt. Especially annoying after a spectacular run in UAS and my second ever entry in 1/2 scale.

Got the final results emailed today, read down only to find that "30" was actually a 40/60! Much better! And about par with previous matches. Not the improved result from the last match, but conditions were less favorable, most folk were off a few in Revolver class.

Maybe one day there will be a score to get in amongst the top Freedom Arms shooters. The 29-3 certainly feels better. It's just "obsolescent" by FA build standards!

I saw the results yesterday & thought you'd done rather well. It looked like Melvin & Robert (not the Other Robert ) were on fire too! The new AR Thing appears to be doing well for you. How's Kdiver liking it??

What?? No mention of the SURPRISE visitor on Saturday?

l think S&W was well represented during the Match.. Clouds and wind

were definitely a factor on Day 2.. Listening to some of the FA boys talk

a couple were having a few bumps in the road too. 0ne with a cylinder

not advancing properly, still another with accuracy issues.. My gun was

having ''0perator Headspace'' issues:-(

I don't know of anyone aside from Robert "Prime"'s son. But I was in the midst of fighting with the 29, and he had left by the time I was done.

Any photos? I only got a couple, and they're unlikely to be good as the usual camera is MIA. Kdiver58 may have gotten some, I fell down on the job, even when offered his smart phone.

BTW, I did a "rapid fire" on the last four Pigs on relay 3, as the "no fire" gremlin had just devoured most of my time. Got all four in probably fifteen seconds, maybe less. Best Pig run of the day. Sometimes it helps if you don't think too much.

Kdiver58 was, as usual, not pleased at the time, but I was impressed. He may have shot the first semi-auto AR entry for score in IHMSA, ever. (Last month, but it was semi-auto for only the first 1/4 of the match. This month it ran fine the whole time.) And because it was semi-auto, his barrel had to be SHORT to make the overall length restriction! 7 1/2", I think. .300 Blackout, factory ammo, and a (good) reddot. Home built job. And not for IHMSA, originally.

My manually operated AR experiments both did fine, but MixMaster2's rear aperture whacked my shooting glasses out of alignment almost continually. Think it had quite a bit to do with the missed Rams, as by that point I was having a hard time seeing, even after trying to adjust the lens. Only it's second time out as an "iron sight" gun, though, hope it will only take a little tweaking. Would like to try 1/2 scale with iron sights next year.

MM1 exceeded expectations, 60/60 perfect score in BB UAS, with 8 of 10 hits on the 1/2 scale 200m Shoot-off targets! And jumped right in after that to shoot my first 1/2 scale BB entry ever. Missed the Shootoff score of 55 for first place by one critter. ( A three way tie at that; would have like to have seen the shoot-off on Sunday, but was already home.) But, to be honest, it did not do quite as well as hoped in Unlimited Standing (36/60). Shot a better score last year at the State Championship with the Highrise 629-6. Mind you, this was my first time ever shooting the MM1 standing whilst the 629 is built exclusively to shoot that way and has lots of trigger time doing just that.

Robert and Melvin usually dominate, no surprise there!

Much longer than three feet! Quite a nice looking specimen, white underbelly and shiny black on top. It definitely wanted to be in the midst of things. Had completely let it slip my mind. Again, was in the midst of trying not to miss....

Fortunately l was at the other end of the Firing Line.. Having been born and

raised in The Holy City, That Bed of Secession- Charleston, South Carolina,

l quickly learned to lntensely Dislike two of God's Critters.. Snakes & Yankees.

Frequently mentioning them both in the SAME breath.. As l grew older my

opinion of Yankees changed.. Snakes are liked by me just one way. DEAD!

Fishing/hunting in South Carolina Low Country since preschool has NOT

changed my feeling for snakes... Being drafted into an unnecessary jungle war didn't

help either..
