Buck chasing doe. Check the time stamp to see how close behind her he was.
The last two photos show a injured buck. I have seen a lot of injured deer but this is a type of wound I have not seen before. Any body seen this before?

Very unusual, please tell us if you ever figure it out.

Just guessing: possibly, hide was cut with a razor sharp broadhead (opened up the hide but did no major damage to muscle tissue or organs) and then the hide was torn some more when the buck got in a fight with another big buck?

My thoughts were a car may have injured him but when I checked the other photos of him,I don't think so. I have many photos of him and I can find no other injury except the missing eye guard on his rack. No limp,no punctures,no bite marks,no claw marks and no signs of disease or being malnourished. This buck is alert and very active. I may never know but I will keep looking for a answer.

Deer of the day

Took a few pics today of the deer in the garden. Had a little buck with his harem. Kinda neat to have 'em within a 100 ft or so. The deer pictured is one of the smaller whitetails around the house. Couple of the others have their harems also. One is a very large 14 pointer(eastern but he is a night visitor A 10 pointer is also a very early very late visitor. In the one pic he is looking into the little strip of wooded cover at one of the larger bucks....note the clamped down tail. He never really showed enough to take a pic.
