It's a VW and it's a Firetruck, what's not to like?

I had a '62 ... boy I miss it. Back then my two Otterhounds would sit on top of the engine compartment shelf while I had the cowl vent on. They were in heaven.
:)

Friend and I had a 65 painted up back in 69. Wife and I had a 69 in 73 with middle seats removed and wish I had it back. Went on many trips in the 69 with our young son, his baby stuff just about filled it up.

I lent my sister 1/2 the money to buy her 1967 VW...but only if I could race it on the drag strip...U/ stock...I actually won a few

In 1975, I had a 1958 VW bug that I drove on the 10 freeway from the San Gabriel Valley into Downtown Los Angeles every day for six years. One Friday I heard a "CLUNK" that didn't sound good. That weekend I pulled the engine and it had crankshaft end ply in opposite directions at the same time!! I reinstalled it in the car as it was my only mode of transportation at the time. I started the search of a 36HP crank, The VW shop said there were no cranks available but he had a 36HP complete engine I could have for just hauling it off, which I did. I pulled the crank out of it, but had to go to work Monday, so I drove the VW until next weekend. I pulled the crank out of the old engine, it was broken in two across one of the counter weights, nicely burnished from being driven about 250 miles. I slapped the crank out of the free motor into my motor and drove it until 1985 When I sold it for $300 which is what I paid for it originally.
