It's alive

I really like that barrel/sight job. And just because you put a set of nice Sunday go to meeting grips on doesn't make it a safe queen. All it takes is 5 minutes and a screwdriver to put the Goodyears back on and it's range time!

I actually didn't think I'd like the Hogues on my 4" 686+ when I got it but after shooting it with those on there I kind of changed my mind.

My 2.5", older 686+ is definitely prettier with the wood, I admit that, but for the outdoor use I plan for the 4" I'll stick with the rubber. I kinda sorta baby the smaller one - it's my nightstand/bedside gun but I don't take it afield anymore.

The OP's gun is VERY good looking and would be gorgeous with wood but then, again, if it is a utility gun for him, well, the Hogues are there for a reason.

I LIKE IT! :D
I never cared for Hogue grips. Just don't like the feel of them.
Some nice wood would be perfect for that gun.
But, for my serious guns, I've always like the look and feel of the old Uncle Mike's/Butler Creek Combats. They don't make 'em anymore, but they can still be found. ;)

I have a 686+, and have the Hogues from the factory. They are AWESOME to shoot. But I got some Grashorn stags for it, and they are BEAUTIFUL!!!
But I don't like the tiny round butt grips for shooting...
So, I'd say get some fine wood grips for the gun, and you'll have the best of both worlds. That gun deserves better than Goodyear.

Think of it this way...you have purchased and finely tuned a Ferrari, but decided that WalMart chinese tires are fine.

Thanks for all the suggestions! :)

I didn't have this round butted because I prefer the "older" style to shoot. If I was just going to show it off, that would be a different story.

So now . . . I'm thinking I need a holster for this thing. The El Paso Saddlery Hardin shoulder holster has always intrigued me. Anyone have any feedback on that?

I can't tell you anything about the EP Saddlery "Hardin" but I sure do like El Paso products. They make have some very nice designs and their prices are quite fair. I have a "Threepersons" for my 4516 that I like very much.

I didn't know VZ made grips for revolvers, gotta pay more attention.
I have two El Paso holsters now, that probably why I thought of them first. :)

Why not show your ARMY pride and add a set of these....These are Altamont Bonded Ivory.

Nice!

I'd have to go for wood. Never cared for the Hogues because the finger groves don't fit my hands.
