It's been a good year for Austin PD Revolvers

Usually I am lucky enough to come across 2-3 Austin Police Department revolvers in a year, however his year has been exceptional for my collection.
This Pre Model 10 marked Austin Police Department 4, came into my possession just this morning. I have known of this gun for well over a year now, stocks number to the gun, finally I have it. I will get to the station later this week to research it.
Just last week at a small show I was able to pick up this 66-2, which I have been working on for the last 7 months. What makes this gun so nice is it was issued to a friend of mine who was in my cadet class.
The Model 36 was sold to me as being an Amarillo PD gun. But I have seen Amarillo marked guns, and I was certain the seller was wrong. Research shows it does in fact belong to Austin PD.
Also shown is what I found this past month just rooting through boxes that men always have sitting on their tables at shows. I like old police leather.

I guess if you are going to soak up all the Austin PD guns, I should start looking for those San Antonio Model 58s. The only APD gun I ever owned was a 5946. I wound up trading it off in some convuluted deal with Joe McBride. I know what you mean about the old leather. I bought a like new N frame brown Safariland 070 for $5. I don't know where I'm going to find anyone that needs a brown one. I guess it could be dyed black. Congratulations on the trio above. That APD #4 has got to be from the 1950s.

I hadn't realized that there were that many different models that had seen use and were marked as Austin guns. Are there prewar models so marked? Or did the rack numbering and identification start only in the postwar years?

I've been reading about all these APD guns and I have yet to find one! I look in every pawn shop I come across in Austin with no luck at all!

All the records that are still available, are all post war.

All the years that I have been looking through these records, I always stumble across some odd weapons that APD brought into their inventory. They brought in all makes and models of different handguns as well as long guns.

APD used to issue Derringers to the Chief and Assistant Chief's. No one knows where these went. I am constantly searching for Derringers at every show I attend.

I bought an Austin P.D. heavy duty several years ago. Glad to see this thread as I had completely forgotten about it. I'll have to dig it out one day.

Wow, is that really a duty belt holster for a 2" revolver? I've never seen one before! I'm guessing either for an M&P or a Combat Masterpiece.

I know nothing about marked PD revolvers, except I have seen a few. In fact, I owned an M&P once that was marked as from the Ohio State University Police. But it was a crude marking, likely done by a vibrating engraving pencil. The Austin PD property stamping on the backstrap looks very professionally done. Who would have applied it - S&W or someplace else?

That's sure interesting. What make/model derringers-- the old Remington 41 rimfires?

The sheriff of the next county over from mine packs a small semi-auto in a high-ride holster on his pants belt when I've seen him out and about in uniform. Can't tell what kind of gun it is, but looks like it might be a baby Glock.

I still have yours. All the years that I have been chasing down these APD guns, I can honestly say that I have never sold nor traded away any of my guns,

I am looking at purchasing an Austin PD S&W 38/44 HD 4" Nickel with rack number 70 on the backstrap which would be approx a 1952 shipped gun. The gun has been re-nickeled by S&W in 1976. Price being asked is right around $1,000.....I am thinking that could be a fair price.

Hello gentlemen. My father gave me a wheel gun years ago. Was reading these forums & wondered if ya'll could give me an idea of it's worth. The backstrap is stamped "Austin Police Department 26". The serial number IS a five digit number, I left the last digit out of frame.
