There is a local seller who wants to sell his Cincinnati PD Model 10, SB, 2" barrel. There is a photo of a stamping on the left frame, just above and to
the right of the trigger. This photo shows a circle, looks to be about 3/8" diameter with CPD stamped within the circle. I have no idea if what he
says is true or not. I"m not primarily interested in the revolver because it might be a PD gun.

The serial number puts in 1960. It is a 10-1 I asked him what documentation he has to prove it's from Cincinnati PD and his reply was....it was a
Cincinnati PD gun. You buy to gun not the story. It's in original condition, typical wear on the satin blue finish, nothing to get excited about.

I was hoping someone might know what a Cincinnati PD marked revolver of that era looks like and if the stamp I described is genuine.

Here in N.E. Ohio, Cleveland P.D. revolvers turn up.
Here is a 10-5

I have a 10-5 square butt 2 inch. It’s a great shooter.

And it really cool to see a Police Dept take pride in their revolver markings rather than just the block factory letters. That CPD marking is neat.

To my eye that stamp looks suspiciously like the stamp from the Cleveland Police Department. I have an earlier .38 M&P that letters to Cleveland. Later on, this evening, I'll dig it out of the safe and do a comparison. I will let you know what I find.

That's the exact same mark in the same location as my issued Cleveland Police model 10. The stamps were at the ordnance unit and the mark was applied by our armorers. Some stamps were neatly done, clean and sharp. But not always!

Okay Housepuss. I finally had time to look in the safe. Your stamp is definitely from the Cleveland Police Department, not Cincinnati. The mark on mine is exactly the same as yours and in the same location.

To make things more interesting, mine shipped from the factory in July 1947, nearly a decade and a half before yours. I guess CPD stuck with the property stamp all those years. Why change, right?

The stamp was in use up until the city changed to 9mm pistols in the late 80s and early 90s. The 9mms were laser marked "ClvlndOHPD" on the slide. This continued with the later issued Glocks. FWIW.

I was at the Ordnance Unit some years later and they still had at least a few of those stamps in a drawer as I recall.
