So I was bragging to someone a while back how I haven't been sick in 10 or 15 years and all of the sudden I don't feel too good and visit the doc and she tells me I have a sinus infection, urinary tract infection, and the flu. So I stay home from work for the first time in forever and I'm miserable and notice the house feels a little cold and discover I'm out of propane so I call the place and they can't come out till the next day. No big deal it was 70 degrees last weekend and been in the 50s and 60s but then I look on the national weather map and it says 16 degrees expected! I thought I was miserable before, but when my wife came home from work she let me know she was really not happy about me not staying on top of the propane level. Oh well, like the old song goes, "when your hot your hot and when your not your not".

Good luck to you!:)

Due to the nasty weather recently we were on generator for 71 hours and getting a bit lower than I like to see!. The propane company uses the number 2 gallons a hour to figure generator propane use. They came by right on time and brought the 500 whole house tank up to 85%. Next step write a check!:D

Always good to have something like a DeLonghi electric heater as back up.
You can make one room quite comfortable, and that's all you need.
11 days of no power and cold temps with Super Storm Sandy made us get a generator, something we has never considered before, plus other ways to put a bit of heat in the house.

Sorry to hear of your illness, may you get much better, and some propane...... soon!

We have a 1000 gallon tank, and make sure it “never” goes below 30%....I’d much prefer “never” going below 40%. But, because of off season promotions, the 30% number often comes into play! memtb

It is cold out but here in the heart of the Okla. oilpatch, having a gas well on your property means free natural gas.
I don't anymore but used to "blow drips" for the raw gasoline (aka; gasoline condensate). Used to have a 300 gal. overhead tank so I burnt unleaded gas before using unleaded gas was cool. ;)
Back in the day, all the old pumpers carried a gas can in their truck so when low on fuel, just stop by one of the drips and fill up. Especially if cold weather... more condensate.

Dang! Sorry to hear that you're not feeling up to snuff...and especially since you can't warm up the house.:(

Two nights ago, it got down to minus three out here. Last night, it was a balmy +7 degrees.

Here's hoping the propane guy gets to your place quick!:)

When we lived on Long Island and burned home heating oil from a buried tank, the spot price for heating oil was almost always better than contracted, so we'd call for a fill. A couple of times we ran out and had a few spare Jerry Cans that we'd fill with Kerosene at a nearby gas station, to get us through until a delivery.

Had four seasons of weather here in SC this month, including tornados. Your wife can always snuggle up to get warm. ;) :)

Get well soon.

Well the propane company sent a pickup truck over right away this morning to put in 8 gallons and light the HW tank, furnace, stove, and fireplace to get me going and the big truck came a few hours later to fill me up. I thought that was nice on their part with no additional charge, and they said a whole bunch people called in with empty tanks last night at 16 degrees. Their propane price was $1.59/gallon which is pretty good for the cold season and I took a hot jacuzzi bath and feel a whole lot better, maybe even good enough to take my wife out to eat Saturday night! That Tamiflu medicine really kicks a flu in the butt and its nice that I don't feel fire when I pee anymore:)

Not always.

In my community we have big in-ground tanks that fuel 3-4 homes each. The knuckleheads (propane supplier) in charge of refilling them sometimes underestimate the usage. That’s no good.

But we lived...electric blankets saved me! :D

Be safe.

"Pre-Buy" your propane and you will never run out as they come and fill it automatically...

In theory that should work. My propane supplier sold out to MFA two years ago. I prepay 750 gallons every summer. Last winter my tank got down to about 12 percent and I had called them a couple times. They said they were going to a computerized program and there would be no more problems. I checked today and my tank shows 28 percent. I do rent their tank, so I'm obligated to their price and service. The price is o.k. $1.49 a gallon but their service is lacking.

I had bought propane from a company previously for over forty years and only had to call them twice. They always kept my tank topped off.

The first propane I bought in 1967 was .11 cents a gallon and it took 300 gallons. I thought they had ripped me off.

You sure that isn't pounds? Propane almost a buck a gallon less than gasoline would cause mass conversions overnite around here. Joe

We signed our annual contract last year, agreeing to take a specific amount of propane during the year @ $1.55 /gallon. If we were to purchase now at the seasonal rate, it would be $2.09 /gallon. It was selling at just $1.89 a few weeks ago!

It’s also nice having the large tank with a “thief valve” set-up. I fill all of our RV and grill bottles right here at home. Always have full bottles, no trips to town, and “not” paying the high price for “small” bottle fills!

There are a lot of great reasons to live rural! memtb
