I have had my eye on a 617 at my local fun shop for the last couple of weeks. I went in yesterday with cash in hand and you guessed it....it was sold!!! I won't let that happen again, when they get another in stock I will buy it without waiting.

They are in very high demand. I am getting close to makin my move not sure though 617 4" or model 18.

Take it easy.

Alas, it happens. I have held out before, thinking the gun was overpriced, and that eventually the price would come down...only to find that someone came skippin in with more money than sense...but, they have the guns and we don't so...

Funny, That stuff usually happens to me but takes way less time,
Usually between leaving the shop and the 20 min ride home while thinking about it!
What were they asking?
Peter

Pred,

They were asking $699.00 + tax. The next one they get will be going home with me:D.

You are beginning to understand The First Rule of Firearms Acquisition: If you ever even THINK that you MIGHT want to purchase a particular firearm, you should have bought it twenty years ago!

Better luck in the future!

I hate it when that happens. If I see something I want I put it in Lay a way. Good luck with your hunt.

My local shops are pretty good. They will hold anything for me for 60-90 days with just my signiture. IF I later change my mind, they just cross my name off the ticket and put it back in the case. This USUALLY keeps me from missing those that I really want.
FWIW, $700 is about average for a nice used one around here these days. $800 new. Gone forever are the days when I could buy a nice 617 for $300-$400.

Yep, local gun store had a like-new M17 with a 6" full under lug and combat grips for $650. That was the most I would have ever spent on a used handgun and had to "think it over". I went back on a Monday morning and the owner told me he sold it the previous Saturday. It happens. I used to sell new and used guns, so I know all about not pulling the trigger immediately on good finds. But I also have to show at least a little self restraint at times. A dollar still only stretches so far.
