Went to my LGS this morning looking for the new Colt Cobra revolver. The young salesman looked at me like, "I have no idea what you are talking about". However, a local guy had just traded for a S&W 66-2 elsewhere earlier this morning and was looking to sell it. I checked it over and it was perfect. Excellent timing, no flame cutting, no cracked barrel, and little evidence of a hard life. It was made in 1983. He was asking $250 LESS than I was prepared to pay for the Colt Cobra so I bought it. It came with a beautiful Bianchi 111 Cyclone holster and 100 rounds of new ammo, 50 rounds of .38 Special JHP's and 50 rounds of .357 Mag JHP's. It wore some Pachmayr Compac grips that I quickly replaced with some S&W grips and a Tyler-T Grip Adapter. Couldn't be happier. It's a beauty. The Colt Cobra will have to wait.

Very nice, the Colt would wait for a long time if I came across a deal like that.

Super duper nice.

I do have to ask why the Cobra dissing going on? I'm just curious. I feel like it's the next gun I would like to get. But unsure about it. I do like the idea of another round in a similar sized gun to a j frame. If my Colt DS wasn't out of time, I'd be carrying it. Will that 1 round make a difference? I don't know. I know at this point I prefer my 442 only because it's not out of time and since it's not, I shoot it a **** ton better. It also feels like it was made for my hands with the hogue tamer grips on it.

No dissing of the Cobra. It will be a fine addition to anyone's collection. This is a S&W forum and if you think the Cobra is being dissed, I own and posted a Kimber K6S and yes, that extra round may be a big deal.

CONGRATULATIONS ON A GREAT FIND. I LIKE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE WITH IT. IMHO, THAT APPEARS TO BE A BK GRIP ADAPTER.THIS IS JUST A MATTER OF TASTE, BUT I WOULD PREFER A SILVER GRIP ADAPTER. BK NO LONGER MAKES THEM IN THAT FINISH......

ACTUALLY GETTING A NEW ONE DELIVERED FROM TYLER-T, SEEMS TO BE A NEAR IMPOSSIBILITY. I WAS ABLE TO PURCHASE MINE ON E-BAY, PAYING MORE THAN I WANTED TO. THAT WAS JUST A MATTER OF SUPPLY AND DEMAND. I WAS JUST HAPPY TO FIND ONE......

Yeah, I like the kimber too. But I think it's more money than I want to spend and the lack of grip options is a deal breaker for me. I don't think I'd like the stock grips. Something a little bigger would make it a lot more desireable to me.

Some guys have all the luck :-), great score buddy ! Its a beautiful revolver

A Cobra pales in comparison. You got lucky.

The comparison is apples to oranges. They are two different size handguns, of two different weights. The Kimber is the only high end comparison on the same level. While the 66 is nice, a great find, it is not a six shot pocket gun. Not even close.

Both the Kimber, and the Cobra can be light pocket carry with one more round than a J frame.

I don't have a dog in this scuffle, but fair is fair, no matter what forum we are on. We certainly are not a Glock forum, and should not sound like one. I don't pocket carry, and the shortest barrel I carry is four inch. Just for myself I see not need in any length shorter. I avoid buying guns to keep up with the Jones, but to fill my wants, and needs. If they make a four inch version of the Cobra I would darn sure be interested though.

I own a very old police positive special in four inch, loaded it is 24 ounces, the model 64 is 34 ounces unloaded. The original DS was nothing more than a police positive with a short barrel. The original Cobra had an alloy frame. This cobra is more stout with a all steel frame.

I thought I saw a nice 2 1/2" 66-2 at Cabelas in Buda TX last Sunday until the salesman put it in my hands.

It had some laser engraving on the barrel and cylinder that wasn't a deal breaker but the big engraved word "Beau" on the side plate surrounded by a floral pattern was plus the $700 tag.

Dam, that sounds like you got a great deal. Nice looking revolver. Good luck and enjoy. There will be plenty of Colts coming, but not a deal like this.

It is apples to oranges. He got a nice sweet orange instead of a rotten apple. Just an opinion, to each his own. Just kidding, Colts are really nice I have a few and enjoy them very much.
