The new Cobra is an unknown quantity at this time and in short supply. Colt may soon drop it, given their record on DA revolvers. And it has a dull finish.
If you may want a Cobra for a smaller gun, wait and see how the market treats it after some are in use.

Actually, according to the specs in the most recent issue of American Rifleman the new Cobra is virtually identical in size and weight to a 2" K-frame. (I compared the specs to my 2" 64-2)
OP: I would have jumped on the 66 as well.

The new Cobras yes, but an older Cobra I think has way better action.

I picked up a 66-1 a while back at a price good enough that I thought I'd flip it and make a couple hundred on it. So far it isn't going anywhere....and probably never will.

On a sidenote, I recently bought my very first Colt, a 4th Gen. Detective Special, and must say I am quite dissapointed.
The action, fit, finish, and funky timing are far behind my 80's S&W's. They don't even compare.
Also, what's up with the non serrated front ramp? It disappears with the slightest glare.
I've heard so many good things about Colt revolvers... will give 'em another chance but for now I'll be sticking to my S&W's.

Not a new Colt Cobra
I, too, have been looking in gun stores for the new Colt Cobra as well as the new Kimber6 revolver. I haven't found either yet, though I have encountered younger store clerks who don't understand revolvers. Funny, yet sad. I also have a S&W model 66 with the 2.5" barrel; it's a great gun but not the easiest to conceal for me. That's why I am interested in the Cobra and Kimber6 ... since S&W no longer offers the models 10, 13, or 64 in 2" barrels. Enjoy your model 66.

I'm not sure that is completely true. Colt's website says it's 25 ounces and I thought a 2" K frame is more like 27-28. Plus, I'm pretty sure the height is with those rubber grips they have on there. And I think they are bigger than the actual handle, like a lot of rubber grips. If you see it covers the backstrap, like my hogue tamers on my 442. Or like Pachmyrs.
It would be interesting to know if the cylinder is the same size as the old DS and the frame too. I assumed it was. But there are definitely differences, so the assumption might be incorrect. Like the trigger guard is bigger and different shape. I don't see why they would make it bigger though, especially since metal are usually even better now a days.
And yeah, it's hard not to like the size of a D frame Colt with 6 shots. But having said all that, I do think Colts have a rep for not being as stout as Smiths in the action dept. And that is kind of a big deal. But I don't know if I just have bad luck with my example. Whenever it comes up it does seem like others have had/ have a similar experience. Yet there's gotta be tons of older Colts with actions that are fine out there. Unless most people just don't know what is or isn't out of time.

S&W K Frame cylinder diameter~~~~1.45 inch
May not seem like a lot, but it is in a pocket. There is also about the same difference in the frame size. Cylinder is shorter, frame height is shorter, total length of frame is shorter. The difference with a 4 inch barrel on S&W 64, and Colt PPS is about 3/8 inch even though they have the same barrel length.
It could be that Colt made the new Cobra larger, but if not the Cobra would clearly be more pocketable than the K frame with the same barrel length.
Yup, cylinder diameter is the same, also if the grip frame is the same as the late production Detective Special boot grips would be considerably shorter than round but K frame. Also keep in mind Colt double actions are timed like tuned single action fast draw revolvers, this is what creates the bank vault lock up when the trigger is fully pulled. Without the slower timing, and same lock up, the trigger would have no play past the sear, making the gun non operable. Colts were not designed for slow fire, but even if they are the lockup is completed the moment the trigger is pulled.
