You know, I'm not a big poisonous snake fan...but, I'm glad you let them live.
No, I didn't take the pictures. They were sent to me by a friend whose ranch is near Christoval, TX (South of San Angelo).
Having grown up on a ranch in west Texas, I have a healthy respect (and dislike) for these critters, but I have never seen this mating dance before. I thought it was a scene from nature that was worth passing on since it is rarely observed by man.

I live in pretty much "Snake Free" Country up here in Washington - least wise all the ones with Poison Fangs are of the two legged kind - and I still remember watching this 'Dance' while I was down in NM a number of Years ago. Very impressive!!!
That is actually a combat dance between two male diamondbacks. Quite a rare sight out in the field...........There is always a couple of uneducated dumb ass redneck types that are looking to "cap" a snake. The rattlesnakes do serve a purpose in rodent control in the Creators scheme of things. I'm not sure how stupid ass rednecks figure into the scheme of things...........entertainment value at best.

It may be snake free (mostly) on your side of the mountains but I had a guy bring in a tiny rattler to our ER once after it bit him.
He was on the field at one of the high schools and when he went to pick up his bag it hit him in the base of the thumb.
The little guy was only about 8 inches long, but a perfectly marked rattler. He didn't even envenomate the guy, probably didn't have any yet. He couldn't have been more than a few days old.
I tried to have the guy give him to me so I could release him, but he wouldn't. He did say he would release it after he showed it to his family.
Up until then I had never considered Washington snake country.
