Bought this from Gunbroker. It was non functional as received but with the help of a donor parts gun I had kicking around I got it 100% functional again. Iver Johnsons with the Bourne Knuckle duster attached are pretty uncommon and this is the first one I had seen come up for sale so I jumped on it. Very interesting oddity.

Twaits,
Good catch. I collect antique knuckledusters and would have looked seriously at that.

Although knuckledusters had been in existence for centuries, this one was pantented. IJ claimed it helped hold the pistol steadier and thus improved acuracy; the patent office agreed. Both the knuckleduster and the Model 1879 are rare, the 1879 much more so. Wonder why the design never flew very far?

Twaits, that's awesome! Here's my Lovell Safety Double Action swing out cylinder 1879. Unfortunately it has an altered hammer. I'd love to have a knuckleduster.

That's a really great and uncommon gun. There's a single action Shattuck for sale at a gun shop up around Hollowell, Maine that looked like it might have been in decent condition. I didn't handle it but looked good through the glass. Rare but I knew I wasn't going to pay the $650 asking price for it.

Incidently, the complete serial number, with letter prefix, is on the frame under the left grip. Be careful getting the grip off; that hard rubber was brittle to begin with and hasn't become any more supple over the years.
