When ivory ages, gets darker and yellower, is that on the surface only, or does the aging/yellowing go right on through?

I have an older set of ivories, nicely yellowing, and they are a bit large so I am considering fitting them a bit better to the K-frame they're on. But I got to thinkin' that if I do, maybe the parts that I sand down, or have fitted, would appear lighter/whiter than the rest? If so, it'd look kinda splotchy. Don't want that.

Whatcha think?

It'll be nice and white just under the aged surface...

Thanks. Guess I'll just move 'em around 'till I find a K-frame they fit better. I like the aged, yellowed look...
