I've recently been looking for a good IWB holster that is tuckable. I'm still in college so usually in a sweat shirt/jeans, but when I'm at work usually slacks & polo or botton down shirt. I would like something that I can wear for both.

The two that I have heard good reviews on is the Phantom modular holster (recommended by Wyatt Earp) & the Minotaur MTAC Holster. Both are in roughly the same price range. Being my first holster I don't understand how it will be completely hidden if the clips are sticking over my belt? Or am I being too paranoid?
Also when looking at the different holsters each says there are different clips that I can attach: J hooks, over hooks, soft loops, tuckable c hooks, tuckable J hooks, C clips & standard clips.

Could some one please explain this to me a little more. I want to get the right one to start with and after a while if i don't like it will try another, but don't want to buy the wrong one right off the batt. Thanks for everyone's help.

j-hooks go UNDER the belt with the result being only the very tip of the hook being visible at the bottom of your belt.

I use both a Galco UDC158 and an Active Pro Gear 11-42 with my 642 and 60. You can't go wrong with this type holster if you desire maximum concealment. Wear a quality dress belt like Trafalgar or Coach and tuck your shirt around the butt of the gun...voila!

Note: A side benefit of j-hooks is that they are a composite material, not metal, and that tends to protect car seats, upholstery, and clothing from excess wear.

Be safe.

DeSantis dual carry. Great IWB not tuckable. Do notuse the belt loop side it hangs off too much. but IWB is great and comfortable

Just as comfortable as the DeSantis but you can tuck a shirt over it while IWB.

I just got this holster for my Model 36 and my Taurus 85.

it conceals just as well as a IWB but more comfortable since its on the belt.

Brian, it is natural to be a little paranoid at first about being "made" carrying. However, you will soon realize that people live in a little bubble of their own and do not notice big things, let alone little details like a pair of black or brown plastic clips spaced far apart on your belt.

I would avoid J clips at all costs. The point of a good belt and holster is to have the belt take the weight of the gun off your waist and transfer it to the hip bones. J hooks do not do this. They transfer the weight of the gun directly to your trousers, so you have to cinch up your belt uncomfortably tightly to keep anything but a lightweight J frame up.

If you are truly paranoid, get a Comp-Tac CTAC or MTAC with their C clips. Those do place the weight of the gun on top of the belt but are barely more visible than J clips.

I have a close friend that is a retired detective from Miami. He told me the bad guy will check you out to see if he can spot a gun somewhere. He carries a Colt .45 under a long shirt and lets a little bulge show on occasion as he moves just in case the wrong person is watching him. He thinks the average person would never notice.

You can view it both ways. If the average bad guy sees the bulge or clips they will steer clear. The average person will never see the bulge or holster clips as anything. Only those of us that carry are conscious of what to look for.
Some people on the other hand will say if you gun prints enough for the bad guy to see it it gives him an advantage over you and when he attacks he will be ready for you knowing you are carrying. I believe that 99% of the bad guys are going to pass and find another easy target. Take a look around next time you are in Wal-Mart. Lots of (sheep) easy targets. They go for the easy prey.
If you are unlucky enough to get a gang banger that is on the attack mode and that bulge or print is not going to stop him, You should already be aware of his presence and set for defensive mode. Being aware of all thats around you is the most single important tool that you have. Spotting that suspicious, lurking person is your best defense before they have a chance to do something. Once they know they are spotted they will move off to easier prey.

I use Kramer #2 IWB and Milt Sparks VM-2 whenever and wherever possible. They are not the cheapest available but you will NEVER regret using their products.

I use the Minotaur MTAC and absolutly love it. Its comfortable and distibutes the weight fairly well and i just use the standard clips,

My daily carry IWB holster is by Raven Concealment and it has the optional "tuckable" clips. Mine is for a High Power, not a light gun, but the Raven makes it disappear. Very thin and comfortable. The wide spread between the belt hooks spreads the load over a wider area and prevents sagging. The Cross Breed Super-Tuck also uses a similar design but with leather as the backer rather than Kydex. My next IWB will be the Cross Breed.

The Milt Sparks VM II is ideal for what you want, just order it with the clips. That way you can carry tucked until you get tired of carrying tucked, and then go back to regular IWB carry.

I rarely carry tucked anymore.

I'm a huge fan of the Milt Sparks holsters. Get a belt from them at the same time. Then the color of the belt and the loops match very closely, and most casual observers will be even less likely to notice them. This also ensures that you have a proper belt for carrying which is something that a lot of people overlook. The right belt and IWB holster can be surprisingly comfortable and can hide even a large handgun remarkably well.

I carry an XD9sc in a Tucker Texas Heritage and often with a tucked in shirt. The gun is invisable.

I ordered it with several different types of clips but I ended up using the standard ones (you can see what they all look like if you go to his web-site) that he ships with the holster anyway.

Yes, you can see the clips with your shirt tucked in. NO ONE WILL NOTICE! Trust me, no one notices the clips, or anything else.

Good luck.

Here's another vote for the Minotaur MTAC. While IWB is not my prefered carry choice, sometimes it can't be avoided and this holster makes it easier for me.

The velcro clips on the MTAC sound like a particularly covert option, though you'll have to rig whatever belts you plan to use.

I frequently carry a 329PD in a Galco IWB. I have also carried a 1911 in the same type holster. I can not agree any more strongly with Mr.44. The right belt will literally make you or break you from carrying concealed.
