Hi, I was thinking I could get an unfluted cylinder for my 640-2 in 357. Does anyone know if that's possible?
The gun is a 38 but I'm told since it was made for the NYPD it's made on the heavier frame.
If I can't do a 357, is there an unfluted cylinder made for these guns I could possibly get?
Thanks.

Call S&W and ask them to fit one. Your likely getting into "IFFY" territory when your guessing about what pressures the gun will handle. You also need to understand that the new cyl may not be "drop in". You need to worry about tolerances, action timing, cylinder gap and metallurgy.

Stay safe.
