Picked up a set of Pachmayr Diamond Pro grips for my 649 and love the feel. I thought the Houge Tamers were nice but these are nicer yet. They seem to have kind of a palm swell instead of being so flat. Hard to describe the material but they are softer than the Pachmayr rubber of old. The fit is great. They install like the Tamer grips but I like Pachmayr's retention method much better. Instead of a hard plastic cap you remove the grip frame roll pin and the screw passes through the hole in the frame. Can't wait to try them at the range.

I was about to pick these up. Do you have a picture? They don't even have one on the website.

I don't have a picture of them on my gun but maybe this will help. I went off this picture I found on a forum thread. Thanks to whoever posted it.

Try pulling a revolver from concealment quickly with a set of "Goodyear" grips and you'll realize why they are worthless for CCW. Range use only.

I had the Compacs and like the shape and material on these much better. They also seem smaller than the Compacs. It's all subjective of course, your mileage may vary.

A statement based upon opinion rather than fact. (And that's fine.)

I've used Uncle Mikes and Pachmayrs on various J-frames, carried in a belt holster. Never an issue for me. Actually, I found them to be a more positive grip than wood. Your Results May Vary.

One nice thing about the Diamond Pro grips are the same size and shape grips are available now for my LCR 357 and my S&W M60.

Just put the Diamond Pro on my 638.
Great feel and size ...really no hindrance for cc.
Nice that it covers the back strap and provides more meat on the frame.
I'll be shooting with them next week.

Would like to get the Diamond Pros for a few j-frames, but I *think* it would extend the butt just enough to be a problem for pocket carry.

Anyone have a photo comparison of the stock 642/442 boot grip and the Diamond Pro?

Thanks.

Mark,
Mine fits quite well in the DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster.
IF you have a small front pocket the issue of it sticking out a bit is a potential problem. All my cargo pants & shorts, however, accommodate the rig very well. No issue whatsoever.

I'm going to give a try to the Pachys a try. Uncle Mikes are great especially on the K Frames but almost as hard to find as the original Spegels they were designed after. Butler Creek who made the original Uncle Mikes off Spegels design really screwed themselves and Smith shooters when they got into a peeing match with Spegel. Thanks for the post and input on the Diamond Pros.

Shot the 638 for the first time today with the Diamond Pro grips on it. Nice. My shots weren't as high as with the stock grips, shooting double action with one hand.
There's more meat on the frame with them...a covered backstrap...and the snubby still fits nicely in the front pocket of my cargo shorts. They will stay on indefinitely.

Not to rub it in, it was about 75 degrees in the desert today in the desert. Ah.
